For the New Wrangler, I Wish Jeep Would...

1. Use stock wheels with 4.5"-4.75" backspace to begin with AND move the wheels out to be flush with the stock fenders. How hard is that?

2. Make 4:10 gears optional for all models.

3. Bring back the khaki-colored top like the TJ had.

4. Engineer a top that doesn't leak like a sieve.

Just my wish list for a few minor things that would ultimately save me money and hassle in the aftermarket world.

RaiderRUBICON 07-13-2011 01:40 PM

Something that very few talk about:

I wish Jeep would improve stopping distance. Motorweek tested a 2011 JKU and it went from 60-0 in 160ft.
I don't believe that to be very good.Matter of fact the only vehicle that tested worse was the 6,000lb H2.

Is it difficult to improve stopping distance?? Can't you just put bigger and better breaks on?? just to get it in the 135 range. :)

AJ:)

Just a few ideas for the faithful

1) wheels with backspacing appropriate
2) choice of axles including D60s
3) choice of gears up to 5.38
4) choice of tires up to 37"
5) real bumpers
6) stock winch
7) rear seat delete option on JKU with drawers instead.
8) factory roofrack
9) diesel
10) snorkel

Gizmo 07-13-2011 02:01 PM

Yeah! Keep 'em coming. Maybe Chrysler pays attention to this forum.

Some good stuff :)

MikeMTJ 07-13-2011 02:36 PM

My list would be:

1. No more ugly plastic fenders
2. No more ugly plastic bumpers
3. No more plastic grills
4. V8 Option or Diesel

Everything else was pretty much listed above. I would have said ditch the 3.8L, but they took care of that.

11) Of course more engine options.
12) Carpet delete/spray in liner.
13) Built in sump pump.
14) Rim options from 15" to 26".

They should allow us to order our Jeep the way we intend. I like these ideas and it would be cheaper to achieve what we want if they just built it that way and charged the buyer the difference in cost from standard to options ordered. Like the 3.73's upgrade for $50.

I imagine that IF this happened people would be buying $50K Jeeps.

rics1997 07-13-2011 06:12 PM

The can not do the backspacing because of state laws. Some states require wheels to be completely under the fenders

They add a hemi as an option thats where we'll be

My top does not leak, I have been through a multitude of torrential
storms in the last few weeks and all is well.

digitalducki 07-13-2011 07:01 PM

power top. there HAS to be a way!! Soft top OR hard top I don't care, the thing i like BEST about my jeep is the thing I hate the most, the top!! Its too hard to operate. Even if they had a quasi mechanical softop I'd be happy, like spring/lever/cable assisted. and to not have to remove the 3 back windows to put the top down. I hate zipping them.

Easy... don't get a Sahara.

zaitcev 07-13-2011 08:41 PM

I want a full-time 4x4 with a center differential (lockable). Diesel, sure. I could easily absorb the price bump.

Another nice thing would be a rear seat for 1, even if some kind of frame going to lock points. Otherwise, my 2D cannot be used to transport 3 people AND their luggage, because the half of the rear bench gets in the way.

Better brakes would be nice, but that may not be compatible with the minimum wheel diameter required for off-road use.

Widened stance with offset wheels is something I do not appreciate. JK is already too wide. Let people buy Ram Power Wagon if they want that kind of off-road machine and leave the jeep alone.

I have Chrysler hood lock and locked gas cap. Hood lock is trash, can be opened with a Slim Jim if you know where to poke, because they wanted a design that allowed to slam it shut, without turning a key. Gas cap is much better than trash aftermarket cap I had before. So, Chrysler have already addressed these suggestions, as much as can be expected from them.

I have a Power Wagon; it's too big.
I wish it was just an extended cab rather than a full-on crew.

Here's a petition for Jeep to build a diesel Wrangler. I signed it.

You want AWD AND have the Jeep be a capable off road machine?

re: "the thing i like BEST about my jeep"

....granted they ride like a hobby horse and handle like a lawn tractor, I'm actually enthusiastic about these features......

Signed the petition! Great idea!
