front maybe rear seats

has anyone ever thought about turning the front (maybe the rear) seat/seats into a storage area? something like taking off the seat part and putting it on a hinge on it and building a box with a lock under it with padding on top? I've been pondering this lately and really considering finding a used seat to mess with. it would be a great place to store stuff and somewhere no one would think to really look.

foxinthemudd 08-06-2007 07:45 PM

something like this... and yes I know the seat is turned backward but its the best I could do with paintshop. I was thinking about something like a strap that you can pull the seat up with like what is on the 97-02 wrangler seats, and placing the seat part on a hinge and flipping it towards the dash.

Did you just get done watching Fast and the Furious?

you can hide ur stash in the soundbar :flipoff:

now back to the question.. in the front i doubt you will do anything since the seats gotta fold forward unless you replace them or make new brackets. In the rear i've seen people do stuff like that. You can make something that slides out.. a tool box that slides out like an underwear drawer :)

foxinthemudd 08-06-2007 11:04 PM

don't have a sound bar that is just a pic I pulled off the net. and I am a officer so it would be a little hard for me to justify using the storage in that way but thanks for all the suggestions...:flipoff:

I was thinkin about puttin a hinge on the frame somehow and if it came to it creating a new frame and using the same cover. I need to look under the seat and explore it a little. I've heard of people doing the drawer thing but I want more room and something that might possibley lock, maybe a locking gun storage or something... so when I'm out driving with out my top and doors I can store my weapon in a semi secure area.

rebelBullDawg325 08-06-2007 11:07 PM

ahhh. well now you know a few new places to search jeeps. and let me know if you find anything out. i desperately need somewhere to hide my pistol from wnadering eyes and hands

foxinthemudd 08-06-2007 11:11 PM

ya no kidding one of my buddies, got his stolen out of his locked dodge with an alarm, that was the only thing they stole so that was good cause we arrested them two days later.

Triple88a 08-06-2007 11:20 PM

Make a sound bar.. looky my cardomain page 3.. see my setup.

Could also mod your console so it has a hidden compartment that slides out the bottom/back of it. Could even put a simple lock on it and hide the lock with a cover. Might take some work but you could possibly convert the lower half of the console.

Example, Pardon the crude drawing.

Of course, your not going to get much space, but it could be small enough to store a hand gun, or other smaller things. Just an idea, i'll look into it more later.

Tuffy makes a lockable drawer that goes under the back seat. Its made out of teh same steel as the rest of their products... and you know how hard it is to break into those things...

foxinthemudd 08-07-2007 09:34 AM

two problems with the two senerios above.
1. I do not have a console, but good idea.
2. I have my amp under the back seat. so a under the seat drawer is out of the question.

erickpl 08-07-2007 10:28 AM

Your idea sounds like the rear seats of the WJ Grand Cherokee. They had the jack tools and amp under the seats on the WJ. Too bad the rear seat is a bench and not a captain's/bucket seat.

foxinthemudd 08-07-2007 12:40 PM

I know tell me about it (not really but you know...) I'm seriously thinking about getting another seat and rigging it to work with a hard plastic box with a lock on it. it is too bad that the rear isnt a bucket seat though, it would make it alot easier to experiment on, however I really like having the back bench seat.

I have one of these bolted to the floor, under a seat in the motorhome:

foxinthemudd 08-07-2007 03:27 PM

I've got one of these in my house already, except its the double. I really want more storage than this though.

Dare2BSquare 08-07-2007 03:34 PM

You don't have a console?

Consider this... I think Amerijeep mounted two metal ammo boxes (from army surplus) with bolts through the floor and the top one bolted to the top of the bottom one. You could lock both of them. The top one brings the height of the ammo console up to the level where you can rest your arm on it. Just put padding on the top.

If he were around, I'm sure he would have pix. But something like that might work for you.

foxinthemudd 08-07-2007 04:24 PM

nope no console. I really don't need one, wouldn't mind having one but on the other hand I really like having that space between the seats for other stuff that I'm carrying. I'm just looking for a better unsuspecting place to store stuff so when I'm driving without my top and doors my valuable stuff doesnt' get stolen with ease.

GrnTJ 08-08-2007 09:38 AM

Sounds to me like you have no options then:flipoff:

foxinthemudd 08-08-2007 10:21 AM

:flipoff: I think that I will buy a seat from a scrap yard and see what happens with fabbing something up. :flipoff:

Triple88a 08-08-2007 05:43 PM

how about just buying a "racing/bucket" seat and just putting a box under it..

Triple88a 08-08-2007 06:15 PM

there u go hows that? Bolt the seat on to the box.. bolt the box from inside to the floor..

emilior 08-09-2007 06:18 PM

Backpack??
;) That's what I do cause my center console's got a busted lock, and a slight tug opens the glove box when it's locked.

RIPBiker13 08-09-2007 06:47 PM

I wanna see pics of your Jeeps interior w/ no console. I've been thinking about a good place to put my gun when I don't feel like carrying it all the time.

OffRDer 08-09-2007 07:04 PM

i have a solution..buy a liberty, or commander!! not having "secure" locking stoage is just one of the downsides to owning the COOLEST vehicle!

Bite your tongue! He wouldn't sell his Jeep! That's why he's being inventive. Bust a cap copper!

thanks for defending me rip, seeing how I was gone for a few days. I am not going to sell my jeep for something with less capabilities. I like inventing things new (keeps the brain working). anyway rip I will try to get you some pics of the interior as soon as I can find my Memory Card reader. for now I think I will just store the glock on my person, seeing how I can legaly carry it anyway.

no busting caps without proper reason...wait what did he say...:D J/K offrder

but that wasn't the reason for the post I wanted to think of another way without loosing more places to store stuff.
