2011 sahara 4 or 6 inch lift
 
Should i get the 4 or 6 inch lift, i plan on running 35's
Any recommendations as to which company i should go with too?
id like to spend less than $1000 on it, and wanted a lift that included everything i need.
I was looking at a this: Skyjacker Suspension JK40BPH - Skyjacker 4-5" Economy Lift Kit with Hydro Shocks for 07-11 Jeep® Wrangler & Wrangler Unlimited JK - Quadratec
but didnt know if i needed the pitman arm, or if id regret not going with the 6inch lift.
any help would be awesome, thanks :thumb:

its a four door if that helps at all

No, 2.5" will do. Could go 3.5" if you want on an unlimited and keep costs down.

You'll also need new wheels.

3" is more then enough for 35's.

2.5 is more than enough for 35's. I put a teraflex leveling kit on my unlimited and fit 35's under just fine.

Since you have a Unlimited, then 3.5" lift is as high as you want to go without starting to add a lot of additional cost (2.5" for 2 door). Some cases 4" can get by without a fatal angle but to be safe 3.5" is the max. If you go bigger you run the risk of your driveshaft joint failing and having to replace your driveshafts with better joints. To do it right there is no way to do a 4-6" lift for under a $1000.

Like most have stated, 2.5" is all you need for 35". JK's can run 33" stock. It's not like the older models where you have to lift just to get a 31's on. You will be very surprised at how high 2.5-3.5" will look on a JK.

i was just at the york jeep show and most of the JK's we were looking at were running 35s with 4" lifts, Im running into the same dilemma of what kit/ to get for my rubi JKU around or under 1200ish. I cant decide between 2.5 with 33" or 4 with 35".

Personally, if you're simultaneously trying to keep cost down, get a lot of clearance over 35s, and don't want the Jeep to ride terribly, I'd go with a good 2.5" lift and then add flat flares (or chop your factory flares).

Plenty of clearance, visually will look like more lift than it actually is, and you're not screwing too much with the factory geometry.

So lets say I decided to get the 4" skyjacker lift and ran 35s on it, I would be looking at a lot more long term maintenance for the underside/linkages? This is going to be my first time not lowering a car, so its going to stress out connectors and such a lot quicker?

I was there as well. While you were at it, did you ask if they did those lifts for under 1.2K? :whistling:

Im trying to sell my hard top so I can afford to put a lift and bumper on before I go back to school in August, I got offered a kit for 700 but I dont have the cash flow to do that until I sell both the top and my stock rubi rims.

You're going to spend more than $1200, that's for sure. You'll need new driveshafts, adjustable control arms and trackbars, extended brake lines, extended sway bar links, new shocks, etc. It adds up.

I'm sure some of those items come with that kit, though you should know that bargain priced kits aren't always as "complete" as they claim. As far as I can tell, what they mean when they say "complete" is that you will physically be able to drive the Jeep for a little while. Maybe. But it'll handle poorly (perhaps alarmingly so) and you'll end up wanting to add this, that, and the other thing until you've invested substantially more than you had anticipated.

The driveshafts are a clear example. A 4" lift needs new driveshafts eventually, and it may be sooner rather than later. Yet those are unmentioned in the list of kit components . . . .

On top of that, I don't know how good you are with a wrench, but I wouldn't really trust myself much beyond installing a 2.5" or less budget boost. If that's your case too, you need to consider the labor costs.

And on top of THAT, have you considered a regear?? Adding 35s is going to drain your power terribly and clobber your gas mileage. You can significantly offset that by regearing, but that's at least a $1200 job in and of itself.

I got the rustys 3.25 basic lift and I love it I'm waiting to Dave up the money for 35's. Honestly the tires are gaining to be the cost of the project. You have to change the tires and the gear and the speedo cable. If I had to do it over again I would wait and buy the full package from rustys with tires and all it seems like a lot but looking back I wish I did it that way

Great with a wrench, just finished putting new coils and clutch in my GTI and fixing pops' double venos in the M3 but Im just low with the funds. Maybe ill just go for a 2.5" and take yalls advice, so a set of 15 inch black rocks and 33 inch BF M/Ts will look and perform fine? Im just a little concernced about bottom clearance when I take the rubi wheeling to gulches when I go back to SC.

Yep.

Don't forget you can always sell the kit down the line and upgrade if you want it bigger--and you've got the budget to match!

Ok last thing, any ideas how much I should put my 3 piece hardtop up for sale? Its been hanging in the garage for 2 years and in almost new shape, I know brand new they go for 2700 but Im just trying to gauge out a price so i can get a bumper and 2.5 lift

well looks like ill do the 3.5 with 35s..
this is probably a stupid question but i have 2 inch spacers now, can i keep them on with the installation of the 3.5 in lift?

Not unless you change a bunch of parts out on the lift to create a custom 5.5" lift.

Remember, you'd be adding another 2" so all the 3.5" parts would be too short.
