tire question/ stock tire gouge

After driving off smooth pavement I noticed that one of my tires has gouges / chucks on the tread. I have the stock 16 Goodyear tires, just wondering if this is normal when driving off road in rocks and dirt ? Will it hurt the tire if its in the tread, they are not deep but noticable while cleaning the wheel. There is nothing on the side wall and I looked at all the other tires and they look fine. Where the gouges are there is little flaps of rubber... I am sure that this can happen to any tire. Just curious how much abuse the stock tires can take. Any imput would great...

tires can survive rock cuts on the tread, but usually the 'stock Jeep tires' are paper thin 2 ply and of marginal capacity to survive much trauma.

Best choice would be to have a local tire guy you trust to look at the damage and assess how safe it is.

Thank you... It just so happened that where I was going was down a dirt rocky road and just that little bit of off roading looks like it did it... I want new tired, but no$$$$ and was going to wait for these to crap out...

Thank you for your feedback

Tread chunking when driving on gravel is completely normal. I grew up on a gravel road and we never had tires that looked new after the first trip home. If there are cuts between the tread blocks, that's a different story, but if it's just little pieces missing out of the tread blocks themselves it's nothing to worry about.

looks like just tread little chunks, small flaps of rubber and small slices.. not deep tho! They all appear to be on the tread and not between them...
