I'm up for meeting up with some Lexingtonians sometime. Especially to wheel. I've never been able to get out. I'm sure IJump would come out with me.

HillbillyJeeper 07-26-2011 05:57 PM

Pick a date.

HillbillyJeeper 07-26-2011 09:57 PM

OK! What days are good for everybody? Most importantly who knows the gorge well? Trailboss volunteer?

jeepmonkey06 07-26-2011 10:02 PM

We know the gorge pretty well but have only been to the wheelin' place once. For me, the weekend after labor day would work out the best. But I could probably do just about any weekend.

ky03tj 07-27-2011 08:41 AM

Anybody wanna meet up this Sunday?

jeepmonkey06 07-27-2011 10:19 AM

Where are you going?

ky03tj 07-29-2011 11:54 PM

where exactly is the "wheelin' place"? Is there a map online or some info that I could check out? :wavey:

jeepmonkey06 08-05-2011 10:06 PM

Coming South (or East I forget what way it runs) on Bert T combs Get off Bert T combs Mountain Parkway at the Slade exit and turn left and the exit, then left again at the light and follow Campton road for a few miles. Turn left off Campton Road onto Highway 1639 Go down highway 1639 until you get to sand lick road, it will be on your left. At the turn there is a little house(white I think) and a thick pipe fence along the road. Follow it to the end to get to the trailhead.

Approx GPS cords. for the trailhead

Latitude 3745'55.21"N Longitude 8343'16.52"W

You'll go for what seems forever looking for this house. You'll finally see it ans you take the dirt road next to it. It'll lead you there.

tommyb 08-14-2011 11:59 PM

those are GREAT directions to that trail, actually it is mapped on google as well. How tough is that trail? Can a stock Jeep do it? I would like to find a semi-smooth trail for camping, fishing, etc...nothing crazy ya know?

jeepmonkey06 08-15-2011 10:27 AM

When I went we had a kayak on top and was by ourselves. We didn't get much into the trails, didn't want to get stuck. I'm not sure how a stock jeep would do. I guess try it but don't go by yourself. And theres some spots that you can camp at when you enter that area, by the railheads.

Also, where are you going to go fishing? I don't know of anywhere to fish around there but i'm not from around there either.

tommyb 08-18-2011 09:08 PM

Ive done a little fishing in the Red River. Not sure if that trail goes anywhere near the river though....guess I should look at Google's map again. Where did you take your kayak too?

jeepmonkey06 08-18-2011 09:10 PM

We were camping at Cave Run and drove down to the gorge to kayak the river. On our way back we drove to the off road area.
