Topless/doorless protection ideas?
I keep the doors off my '02 and often have the top down. Couple that with South Florida mid-day deluges and, let's face it, she's getting wet! :D

What can I do to help protect the body? Take out the carpet and lay a sealant?

What about the electronics? The radio didn't want to come on after a particularly stormy night!

Any other thoughts/ideas? Thanks!

bestop trail cover. i don't have one yet but i have been dealing with georgian unpredictable weather as well and that seems to be the best bet i have found so far. beats my tarp and shammy ha-ha.

X2 on the Bestop cover. It will cover the entire top along with the door openings, it is held down with clips that go around the bottom of the body. Look on Craigslist in your area, I found mine for $100. New Price is about $130.

A buddy of mine took two wal-mart car covers and sewed them together to cover his Jeep. But it is only water "resistant" not waterproof, so that idea may not get you where you want to be.

I have the besttop trail cover, and if rains much it gets big pools of water! need to put PVC pipes or something to keep water from pooling... luv it BTW, take it with me folded under the back seat

I also live in South FL and was having the same issues... I took out all of the carpet and had the entire tub lined with spray on bed liner! It was the best thing I have done to the JEEP yet!!

As mentioned, bedliner. Inferno Girl on this website sells something called the Dirty Mudder column cover. it covers your steering wheel and column, along with the clockspring, the most easily water-damaged part of your jeep. as for the radio, mine usually doesnt get to wet if I keep a top over it of some kind. in a very bad storm just throw it up quick. trail covers are also an option but take longer.

I tilt my seat up and over the steering wheel, then take a large trash bag over the top of the seat down to the sides, and use four clothes pins to secure it to protect everything. you can use another bag to go over the radio if you wish.

Take the carpet out, and either do a spray in bedliner or roll on yourself... Then get one of these

That should take care of just about everything....

I actually run a safari top just so i don't have to mess with all of that. But I miss the sun... Oh well, trade off.

If it looks like rain I will run a bikini top and I keep a military poncho in the back that keeps the seats dry. I also run no carpet, and did a DIY spray in liner

How does the radio cover mount. Do you have to pull the head unit out ?

This is what I ended up with. And its waterproof. Got caught with my top off one to many times!

Rain Gear Jeep Covers

Bestop trail cover and Zuse ( I think that's how it's spelled) cover bow. Best items I ever got for my Jeep. Been using them for years and love them. Mine is a daily driver and with these I can leave the doors off most of the time. The bow goes between the roll bars in front and keeps the water from pooling. Don't get the cover without it. It's $30 and the trail cover is $130-$150. Both worth their weight in gold if you want top down and doors off. If I have to drive in the rain, I put the top up without the windows or doors on. It has to be really nasty to make me regret it. Get where you have to go, throw the top back down, on with the trail cover. I've gotten really fast with it.

I just run my rampage top in bikini mode with doors and windows off. I don't care for sunburns from driving, top completely off is a bit novel. Protects the stereo and steering column.

Carpets have never been in the jeep, monstaliner going in this weekend.

FYI marine stuff is NOT waterproof, it's corrosion resistant and water resistant, meant for marine applications where salt is the biggest issue. I would recommend marine speakers though, but marine head unit seems pointless to me. Rain water is pretty pure, given time to dry out regular head units should be fine. But wit a bikini top rain would have to be 90* sideways to touch the head unit.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the feedback. Looks like it's keep it covered or build a garage....and I don't think the landlord would approve on the garage!

What about any tips/tricks/things you wish you'd thought of before you started for the DIY liner?

Like mine as well. Unlike the OTHER brand it even fits back into the nifty stuff sack with toggle when not in use. Really like that US flag and "made in USA" tag as well. As for pooling I just stuck and old hard hat on the end of a cut down broom stick and place other end in cup holder. Both work fine for me. At least till I can find a frame and the assorted hdw for a RAT.

Talk about a timely thread. No more than 10 mins after hitting the send key on the above post. I yelled into the other room for my son to turn the sub down on the TV audio. I was hearing a lot of booming. It wasn't the TV. The sun was still bright coming in the NE facing den window, but back to SW was the meanest, blackest looking monster I've seen in a while. Of course the Jeep was uncovered. It's beautiful, albeit hot as hell out there.
Got that Raingear Trail Cover on in less than 3 mins! 5 mins later it was dark, 60mph winds and pouring so hard i could barely see the end of my 100' driveway. Best 130 bucks I've spent lately.

Just took the softtop off of my jeep for good. Was tired of having to put it down and up. Plus im not a fan of running a top on it. I herculined the inside of tub which wasnt hard, put bestop vinyl seat covers that work really well, put safari top on it, and if it gets to bad out I have a wrap around wind jammer I use. I have the full doors but when it rains with just safari top and doors on the dash is no where close to getting wet.
