Any year JKU to avoid?

In looking at used Unlimiteds are there any years or models to avoid? Anything I should look out for when shopping used Unlimiteds?

thanks!

Nope.

Just be wary of heavily modded jeeps. They may look good, but either a qualified mechanic or you if you're so qualifed should look them over to (a) make sure everything was done right and not causing any damage, and (b) make sure it hasn't been abused too badly off road.

For that reason, many encourage buying "as close to stock" as possible. The less mods the better, unless you know what you're looking for.

That said though, there are plenty of jeeps out there with very well done mods.

Yup, '07 to present. They're chock full of electro-nannies!

Those are called "electro-child-care-providers" thank you very much. :D

It's true, we JKs have more electronics than prior jeeps--but still less than just about any other street legal vehicle! TJs had quite a few too though. My brother's 2001 gave him a hell of a time tracking down a bad sensor earlier this year.

And there are some benefits to a (modest) increase in electronics. JKs can for example adjust their speedometer to account for bigger tires with a programmer rather than actually needing to install a new gear. The "brake locking differential" is also a nice touch.

Not any to avoid but for obvious reasons go for the newest model you can afford. Little things such as the bigger back window on the 2011 hardtop/revised interior or the easier to use 2010 softop are little things that Jeep continues to improve on and make it a more enjoyable experience.
