I'm trying to help a neighbor replace the electrical guts in his column: the turn signal cam stuff and the mechanism at the end of the signal stalk. We got it to a point where it really seems like this upper plastic shroud should be removable, but it just won't come off. I'm looking for any pointers on what to do next. The upper plastic part is attach to the rest, and all the plastic seems only to be held on by the actuator rods for the ignition and turn signals. Here's a pic.
Haynes manual chapter 12. They got pics of how to do it on page 12-9

dude, you got the column disassembled enough to replace the turn signal switch and the wiper switch....all you have to do is feed the wires thru the colmn to the plug in at the bottom.. easiest way is to clip off the old switches and tape the wiring for the new ones to the old wires and fish them out the bottom and then plug them in......:thumb:
