What's my old Willy's worth?

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but I'm not sure where it belongs.

My first Jeep was a 1942 CJ2-A/Willy's FrankenJeep hybrid that I drove in high school in the 80s. It hasn't been driven since, and it's basically fallen apart. Rat nests in the seats, flat tires, and so on and so on.

I always had a plan to restore it, but I'm beginning to accept the fact that it may never happen, and I should sell it. But I have no idea what it's worth in its present condition. Anybody have any suggestions/ideas/links? Sorry I don't have pics - just assume it's in pretty crappy condition. Oh - and it's parked in southern AZ right now.

Define "fallen apart."

How is it for rust? That would be my biggest concern, since everything else is going to need to be rebuilt anyway.

I'd guess you could get $500 if it is substantially complete. A bit more if it is largely rust-free, too.

Well, lessee... rust-wise it's actually not too bad. Being stored in southern AZ was a blessing as far as that goes. As far as falling apart, it's still technically in one piece. I mean, it was never disassembled or anything - basically just parked and never driven again.

I was thinking about $500, so I'm glad I might be kind of on the right page.

Check the G. G503.com Message Forums • Index page They'll give you a better idea than this modern Jeep board.

It's completely worthless. In fact if you give me $500 I'll take it off your hands for you. :)

I had a 2A when I was in high school. Well actually an MB-2A made by ford. I live in the North east so it was a rust bucket. sold it years ago, not running for 1K. I guess its finding the right buyer but I know you could part it for at least $500.

Jim: thanks for the link. I'll check it out. daggo: nice try! :) cheap: good to know you got $1000 for it.

I'd also try Flatfenders.Com for the restoration and rebuilding of flatfender jeeps..

I avoid them, because they're the type of people who keep yelling about Bestop no longer making a white top, but they're good guys.

I would spend a little on it and get it running. The tranny and axles will still be fine if they worked before and the fluid didn't leak out. If you have to spend $100 to get it running, but it triples the value it's money well spend. One of my early Cougars was in the same boat. It was basically complete, but didn't run and I couldn't get $500 for it. I put about $100 and an afternoon's work into it and got it running, but not driving, and had people offering me $1500 for it. IIRC I finally sold it for $1800 on a $2000 asking price.

Only your wife knows the value of your old Willy.
