Cutting Stock TJ Fenders

3 Attachment(s)
So today I decided that I was finally going to cut my stock TJ fenders after realizing I didn't want to pay 450$ for some new ones. Turned out exactly like I thought and I'm happy for the time being.

Nice man! I was actually standing in my driveway for like 20 mins today eyeing mine up thinking about this, and the best way to do it. I am going to try to fab some of my own here soon. I like your style though, for sure.

Very nice! How did you do it?

ipath68 08-07-2011 01:03 AM

I used masking tape for a cutting refrence line, I measured 2 7/8" from the body to the outside of the fender for the flat on the top and then just took the tape down to the corner where the fender met the body. I cut it with a multi function tool from harbor freight, worked awesome!

I like this mod , but what about the side marker lights ?

ipath68 08-07-2011 09:11 AM

I unplugged the lights, removed the bulb and wrapped the end of the harness around itself. I might get some little side marker lights from a auto or trailer store, but I personally don't think they are necessary.

I did it in steps until I got my flatties. First cuts,

Then I got down to the fender itself.

I added edgeing molding to fenders and that completely made them look professional. I would tell anyone who doesn't like there stock fenders to go for it!:punk:

crikeyjeepturtles 08-08-2011 10:42 AM

HD Wrangler 08-08-2011 12:34 PM

Mod looks great! looks like I may have a weekend project coming up.

Cons_Table 08-08-2011 12:37 PM

All you need now is a little paint and they will look brand new

Taping them took about 10-15 minutes just making sure I liked the lines. Then cutting all four took maybe 10 minutes. Really nice, really easy mod.

I'm actually thinking about the spray bed liner for the textured look. But you are right!

That99SaharaGuy 08-08-2011 01:56 PM

Those look really nice! I've successfully busted up both of my front flares on my Sahara. Now I've got to buy black ones because factory matched are expensive! I just might do this:)

ipath68 08-09-2011 07:22 PM

Today I finally put bed liner spray on the fenders, I can't explain how happy I am with the fenders! Thanks for the input guys!

Looks great I like the flat flaers not the price will look at trying this.

98jeepkid 08-09-2011 10:23 PM

Now you just have to get those front turn signals tinted:)

Cons_Table 08-09-2011 10:28 PM

I like the molding you put on them. It really cleans up your cut line. I would consider this if one of my flares wasn't about peeled off (Leaned it into a rock lol)

Thanks I spent 8$ on the molding and 10$ on the bed liner. For 18$ totally changed the look. You might post and ask for someones take off set, might save big money there are some generous people on WF. Sorry to hear that.

BigEZ 08-09-2011 10:47 PM

where'd you get the molding? I got the MCEs in front and cut my rears similar to yours but left a bit more width. I also did the rustoleum bedliner, which I love. I cut the flares w/ a carpet knife, took about 5 mins to cut both, plus about another 5 to tape.
