NC Beaches

What are the best beaches to go to in NC that you can drive out on the shore? I know Carolina Beach and Fort Fisher, but I was looking for something different. Thanks in advance. :D

I think that's about it, other than the outer banks, but I hear its strict out there, gotta stay "in line"

Lol. Being "in-line" is no fun. lol. That really sucks. I was hopping for a change of pace.

Ever been to uwharrie?

I've been with a friend in their Jeep, but I haven't been there yet with my Jeep. I bought the Jeep about a month ago, and I've been doing stuff to it that the previous owner should have done, and customizing it here and there. It's pretty awesome up there. Do you go regularly?

You can drive out on the north end of topsail..but it's not really that exciting :) Not a whole lot of actual beach left out there!

Corrolla Beach at the north end of the OBX has 13 miles of beach you can drive and multiple areas among the dunes you also get to in a Jeep. We went into the trails around the dunes in search of the wild horses. Just be careful in the sand around the dunes if you go alone. The beach is wide enough to pass slower vehicles if someone is taking photos, etc. Beach speed is 15 MPH ! Just take Hwy 12 N until you run out of pavement. You can air up right in front of the Lighthouse when you finish.

Thanks! I'll definitely check those out.

I think you can get a pass for certain times of the year to drive on the beach for fishing purposes in Surf City and Topsail...

The islands North of Cape Lookout Lighthouse are great 4W areas (Long Island in particular). Can only be reached by private ferry. There's a NPS campground with cabins on Long Island for overnight trips.

During low tide you can cross from Long Island to Portsmouth Island. Portsmouth has a restored park where you can walk around and explore the individual buildings of the abandoned village. Very cool day trip. (Be sure to have the tide charts with you!)

I went there two years ago and it was really cool once you got there but traffic is BRUTAL unless you go early - bring lunch etc... and plan to stay all day.

Sand was so deep had to air down and lock up at the very end of the beach, got some awesome photos of the wild horses also.

Did anyone see the OBX run for July 21st in the jeepforum. I am going to try and make it to that. Just figured I would pass it along to fellow NC jeepers.
