When I was 4 I remember my Uncle buying a brand new CJ and I though it was the coolest thing in the world. I had a Jeep matchbox that I cherished above all of the others and thought Daisy Duke's ride was cooler than the General Lee.
Flash forward 26years. I lusted after the newly introduced Wrangler Unlimited. The two door traditional Wrangler would not be my reality anytime soon with two little ones, wrestling them into and out of a car seat behind a folding seat was not going to happen. However the Wrangler Unlimited was outside of my budget at the time and I settled on a Patriot, which brought back fond memories of my father's 20 year string of Cherokee Chiefs and Laredos of the 80's and 90's. The Patriot was a Jeep, and it had cool styling that reminded me of it's roots, but it was not a Wrangler.
Flash forward 4 more years to last week. I found a 2008 Wrangler at my local dealer that just came off a low mileage lease. With only 30,000 miles, it is new enough for me to finally realize my dream. I took if for a test drive, gushed to my wife about it, and the dealer offered to let me bring it home for the night for a test. After taking off the panels on the hardtop (in only about 2 minutes) and handing the keys to my wife, we went for test ride (with the kids safely strapped into their seats in the back). 3 minutes in my wife commented "This is fun", which was not what I was expecting. My 4 year old daughter thought it was about the coolest thing ever staring out the open roof. She seemed more heartbroken than me returning it to the dealer later that afternoon.
I am now very eagerly awaiting taking delivery tomorrow after work. I have already ordered a hoist to set up in my garage for the back of the top and am trying to learn as much as I can in the mean time.
Great forum here, a whole world of knowledge and some super friendly people. I obviously have little to contribute at this point, but will do my best to be a good student.
