TJ Hella headlight replacement

I replacted my sealed beam headlights (standard OEM) with Hella lamps with HB2/9003 bulbs. Purchased from Morris (thanks for the $10 discount!).

Halogen Conversion Headlamp - 7 Inch Round<br>(Sold Individually!) HEL-002395301

Replacement skill level: 1 (very basic).

Removed the chrome trim ring (3 screws).
Removed the headlight retainer (4 screws). All screws were Torx T15.

The tabs in the outer ring lined up with the new headlights.

Light bulbs re-attach with the stock wiring harness because they dont draw more wattage than the OEM headlight.

Put the retaining ring back on.

And then the outer trim ring.

Repeat for the driver side, and your done!

Nice clean light install, and better performance than OEM. It's not as bright as the IPF's, etc.... but it works as a DD.

Next project: replacing the spark plugs and replacing the fan with an electric (FAL-475).

Good write up. I ordered a set earlier from Quadratec. How do you get the bulb in the grey rubber piece? I am putting HID's in them.

This headlight kit has the bulb installed. It's replaceable, so I suspect removing the rubber boot will allow you to remove the light bulb fairly easily.

(Note for HIDs those are not the one you want. You want the e-code lenses.) The rubber cover is for shipping but some have trimmed it so the bulb will seal better against water. I did not keep it.

Being a newbie jeeper, I made this choice since the E code headlights are NOT DOT approved, I could be subject to a ticket here in MD. The friendly po-po around here love to ticket jeepers. The glass protrusions on the lens are the indicators. Without them, you are subject to a ticket. This of course, has to be a secondary offense. Getting off topic....

The Hella headlights used above are DOT approved, thus the choice. For throwing more light on trails, etc.... I choose the fog lamp mods so that I can control when/where to throw the extra light.

Hella E-code lenses you want for HIDs. Correct.

Here's a pic I meant to post to show the output of the headlight. Taken with my reasonably priced cell phone. No flash, no photoshop.

Hella E-Codes. Very happy with them. They throw the light strait, down and to the sides.

And the slam dunk, an article in a Jeep magazine that rates these lights at the top. Thanks to Knowledge97 for telling me about this article.

I am running Hella e-code with HID installed. It has a very nice cut-off and no glare whatsoever. Once you go with HID, there is no turning back. All my vehicles are running HIDs.

Hella also has a conversion that uses a HB2 bulb. What type bulb is that? Ive never heard of it.
