Should i paint my headlight bizels or order new ones

My wrangler came with chrome headlight bizels but i want no chrome on my jeep, I didn't know if I could take them off and spray paint them gloss or matte black

RockyWrangler98 08-16-2011 10:34 AM

Paint them. Easy enough.

Drakea94 08-16-2011 10:34 AM

You can take them of or leave them on and paint them ( i recommend taking them of to paint )

john4ward 08-16-2011 10:35 AM

I took mine off last week and gave them a squirt of aerosol bedliner.... they look great.... quick and very easy.

JeepnJim 08-16-2011 10:42 AM

Painted mine with Krylon. Turned out nicely. I painted the ring around the headlight as well

Off_Road_Teacher 08-16-2011 10:46 AM

Ok thanks guys, I'll do that today

HELENKELLERMRI 08-16-2011 03:13 PM

Get some before and after pics. I was thinking of painting mine.

Off_Road_Teacher 08-16-2011 03:21 PM

Ok will do

jtaghansen 08-16-2011 04:36 PM

Yes paint them. Crome does not belong on a jeep..... As soon as I get some time I will be painting mine along with the crome fuel door.

Skyhawk32 08-16-2011 04:43 PM

I shot mine flat black looks great. Just give them a good sanding.

2003x 08-16-2011 06:50 PM

Yup, mine were Chrome. I sprayed them with Rustoleum semi gloss black.

Dewry636 08-16-2011 07:20 PM

I scuffed mine a little with some 1000 grit sandpaper and used the spray can rustoleum touch-up primer/paint/clearcoat. Holding up nicely still after 5 months.

I bought black ones from ebay, they were cheap enough, and hubby wanted me to be able to return it to stock if desired. Not that it will ever happen, but oh well. No worries about chips and having to re do them this way.

TroutBumTJ 08-16-2011 09:17 PM

Krylon fusion satin black for me. See my profile for pics. Easy mod that looks great.

Bigstonz 08-16-2011 09:21 PM

I don't regret painting them, but I'm always touching up nicks. Are the Ebay ones plastic? If that's the case and they are cheap I'd go that route

flameredTJ 08-16-2011 10:30 PM

rustoleum bed liner. sanded them first and let them dry completely before putting back on and havent had any nicks yet. love they way they look

X2 They were less than $30

kfdjason7620 08-17-2011 02:44 PM

I bought the black bezels and the black snap in grill inserts at the same time, whole new look!

2003x 08-17-2011 06:30 PM

I re-painted my trim pieces today a semi-gloss black.

I painted mine this morning. Scratched them up with a Scotch brite pad then hit them with rustoleum universal flat black. They came out nicely.

Yes, black plastic. Much better than touching up, IMO.... :)

MikeMTJ 08-17-2011 10:02 PM

I personally like my chrome headlight bezels. I won't add any chrome to my jeep, but I'm leaving mine be.

Awesome! I was apprehensive at first, but I was glad I took the plunge, as well.

jeepinmichguy 08-19-2011 06:52 PM

Paint em.

Wheel2Work 08-19-2011 07:36 PM

If you stick the screws into a piece of cardboard, you'll be able to prime and paint the torx screws from the bezel also... That way the fasteners are as black as the trim ring :D

Wish I'd thought of that. Eh the silver screws look kinda cool though.

Do it yourself...

Or you can hit them with some touch up paint once they are installed.... I have a ton of black touch up from our last 4 vehicles..... All black.

yoopone 08-20-2011 06:24 AM

Paint. Used Rust O Leum satin black after thoroughly sanding bezels. Stuck the screws into cardboard to hold them and painted them also. Looks awesome now. Did a ton of trail riding this summer afterward and do not see any stone chips at all.
