2011 jk unlimited rubi. spring for 2 inch lift.
 
Ok. Where's what iam thinking . I would like a couple of inches lift. I think I would just rather change springs in the front anyways. Iam going to ad a winch to the front and would like the front to stay level after winch is installed. Can anyone offer some advice as to what spring to get a couple inches of lift. Thanks all .

Let's start with finding out what springs you have now. Crawl underneath and take a look at the tag on your springs. The last 2 numbers will tell you want you have. They range from 12 to 19 in the front and 52 to 60 in the rear.

You can gain as much as 2 inches going from the lower rated to the highest. Getting "Rubicon" springs means nothing because they are not necessarily the highest rated.

And I would say from experience that if you already have an unlimited, there's almost no possibility you'll get 2" of lift from this swap. You'd have to have absurdly low rated stock springs. Possible I suppose, but unlikely.

The folks who do the best going with Mopar HD coils (which is what everybody really means when they say "Rubicon springs") are those with 2 doors that for whatever reason happen to have really weak stock coils. They go from very weak to very sturdy on a lightweight vehicle and poof! get a pretty good lift.

However, an unlimited weighs hundreds of pounds more than a 2 door and they consequently almost always come with stiffer springs to begin with. I swapped in HD coils on my unlimited, and it got me about 3/4" of extra height. Not really worth the effort IMO--now I want bigger coils so I've got to do it over again.

Find out what springs you have, but my suspicion is that you will find better options looking elsewhere.

Great links. Regarding the first thread on jk-forum, it mentioned the 4th digit of the VIN being an F or a G to determine the springs and GVWR. My 4 door Rubi hard top with max tow, still in Toledo in some state of build, has an H for the 4th VIN character. Did they just crank up the springs to 11?

It's been a while since I read through the link. I'm not sure if a relationship or pattern was ever developed. The OP asked about the VIN in an attempt to see if there was something that could determine what was put in. From all the replies, I'm pretty much convinced they just grab whatever is handy. :rolleyes: There really doesn't seem to be a rule.

Basically 4 doors and Rubicons have heavier rated springs, in general, but not necessarily.

Frame of reference is a wonderful thing. I never think about the 4 door difference. Ooops. :D

Since posting last night I did discover that my Rubi-UL with hardtop and MaxTow has an H rating in the VIN, which does mean a 6,001-7,000 lbs. GVWR.

Once I get the thing I'll be sure to record the spring #s.

I guess that means I can have an extra piece of bacon with breakfast.

Looks like they changed- or is it different than the pre 11's?

Mine is a G and my springs are the highest number listed. I looked in to this after I was at a jeep meat & greet, I was parked in between a 4 door and another 2 door (non-rubi) my jeep sat noticeably higher than the two. I pointed it out to another jeeper and he explained it to me.
Thought I might have had a lift :(

Fronts are 18/19

Rears are 59 I believe.

I know the rears are not 60, but the fronts were right at the highest number and the rears were close to it.

Like I said- it was very noticeable,especially next to a 4 door. I thought I had a small lift.

Essentially you do. When I added the 19's and 60's to mine I added a full 2 inches.

I didn't really believe the claims I had been reading, but I decided to go through with it for just having the heavy duty suspension, if nothing else. I actually took before and after measurements and became a believer! You can see before and after pictures in that second link.

MaxTow is new for 2012, isn't it? Maybe that's why the bigger springs are coming from the factory now.

There has been plenty of speculation that the JKU with the 3.6l *should* be able to tow 5000lb, much like a GC with a similar wheelbase and the same drivetrain can. I did confirm without doubt that the 3500lb limit on previous JKUs was due to cooling limitations of the 3.8l, and nothing else.

I'm really disappointed that Chrysler hasn't bumped the rating up to 5,000lb, but I'm at a point where I would risk it. Regardless, I welcome the bigger springs.

The F5 key on my computer still isn't working, Insight still says I'm D1. When I get that fixed and actually have my JK, I'll update this thread with my springs.
