Do I have a rare bird (Golden Eagle)?

I recently purchased a 1999 Jeep Wrangler Sport, it is gold in color and has golden eagle decals down the sides of the hood and a eagle head on the hood. It also had eagle head badges on the side of the body near the sport decal. I have researched this "golden eagle" and can't find another one like it for the 1999 year. Was this Jeep a possible very limited production run. Before anyone asks - it has the original gold paint and the decals look factory. These decals are not like any other golden eagle decals I have seen on the Web. These are sorta in cursive writing and not block letters like other goden eagles. Does anyone have any information about this Wrangler?

It sounds like a custom Job to me. Not positive though. I'm pretty sure the golden eagle that came out in 04/05/06 sometime around there did not have a sport sticker as well...

Golden eagle is 06 only. Sounds like somebody made their own with decals. Vinyl shops can make u whatever u want

The CJ5 Golden Eagle was made from1977 - 1980. The CJ7 Golden Eagle was made from 1978 - 1980. There was also a 2006 Golden Eagle w/ smaller decals.

As stated just some aftermarket stickers, post some pics' when ya get a chance.

Look around your driver's seat, between the door and the seat. You might find an identification plate, if it wasn't removed. The letters and numbers should provide a dealer with all the information needed to tell you everything about your Jeep.

Just plug the Vin in on compnine.com. it would have a code for any special package

Yep.... I love that site! :)

NewYJOwner 08-20-2011 12:16 PM

I get a sales code information is not avalible from compnine????

06GoldenEagle 08-20-2011 01:45 PM

you get all RPO codes for your jeep. golden eagle package for 06 is listed, obviously it should also be listed like rocky mountain, freedom, sahara etc. if jeep made it that way, it would be in the RPO codes

OK, I have found out a little more about this "special" Golden Eagle. I found paperwork from the seller where this jeep was, originally, when new, an AVIS rental Jeep Wrangler. Apparentlly. a special jeep made just for AVIS rental cars in a limited production run. I am continueing to investigate the validity of this because the paperwork only references "special golden edition" and shows AVIS as the original owner. I am not positive it had all the Golden Eagle decals originally, but it looks factory to me. I will post Pictures later if I can figure out how to do that.

I hope it's not the AVIS rental Jeep I tore the holy Hell out of while on vacation a couple years back. Sounds just like it. Better look underneath it to see if there is any obvious skidplate damage. If it was the one I drove, there will be OBVIOUS damage... :D

Oh no. Oh no no no. :D this is why I'd never buy a rental.

cavediverjc 08-21-2011 03:45 PM

Hahaha... I was just kidding. :D

But people do tear the crap out of rentals. I wouldn't buy one without a THOROUGH inspection...and maybe not even then. I rented a Pontiac Sunfire one time that I guarantee went to the boneyard sooner than it should have... :D

Good luck with yours though...

Next best thing to beating a rental. Messing with the drivers Ed kids!

OK , here are the pics, I did confirm that the Jeep started life as an AVIS rental, the VIN numb er confirmed it. The Jeep is in Great condition despite being a rental, it has 80.000 miles on it, automatic and AC.

That looks nothing like the factory Golden Eagle. I doubt Chrysler had anything to go with that. Avis or the particular rental location could have easly had any vinyl contractor do the decals.

06GoldenEagle 08-24-2011 07:33 AM

yea the obvious EAGLE decal that was used on the EAGLE vision and talon should also give that away

highcotton59 08-24-2011 11:12 AM

Yea, you guys are probably right, Jeep or Crysler probably didn't apply or design the decals, BUT it looks cool nontheless. I like it. I think I'll keep her, NOW the bigger question is - what mod do I do first? I'm thinking bigger tires, a little lift and getting rid of those really ugly stock bumpers.:)

GoldenSahara00 08-24-2011 11:16 AM

the best thing about your jeep is the color. I would cut your front and rear bumpers, add a BB, and some cheap craigslist tires, then plan/save for the real mods.

highcotton59 08-24-2011 12:28 PM

A BB? Hummm, not sure what that is... Just call me stupid I guess, remember I'm new to the Jeep owners lingo. But I'm a quick study!

Oh, and money - well I got that, just want to spend it wisely.

Jon M 08-24-2011 12:37 PM

Are those the original fender flares?

4Jeepn 08-24-2011 12:45 PM

I would see which rear axle you have, not sure if anyone said that yet. But its an important part in the build process. If the diff cover has a round plastic fill plug you have the weaker dana 35. If you have a square metal fill plug you have the stronger dana 44.

BB refers to budget boost lift, usually about 2" tall.

highcotton59 08-24-2011 02:38 PM

Yes, the fender flares are the originals, The former owner painted them with Krylon Fusion Paint for plastic about two years ago. I have used that paint before too, on other plastic painting projects, it is awesome, the prep is the key for it to last.

I'll have to check on the type rear end it has, I will do that soon. I don't plan to ever rock crawl or do any severe off-roading with it, but I do want to turn bigger rubber. Will the larger tires require the better rear end for reliability? If I do the BB, what are the biggest tires I can run on the rims I have? -
