whats up dudes and inbetweens.. just a new jeep guy here. my project. 1994 wrangler with over 240,xXX thousand miles and STILL RUNNING STRONG! (so proud to say that lol). very rusty project but i can work with it... today i was gonna take out the carpet for next week im going to paint the tub with bedliner so i start to look under the carpet and what do i find? i GIGANTIC hole underneath the driver side pedals.. (pics included).. i was like WTF? i knew it had alot of rust but jesus... anyway i wanto seal that hole up.. any ideas? ive been looking around the site.. an idea would be wire brush ALL rust then weld a piece of sheet metal on it and fiberglass around it to seal it. then paint the tub, etc etc.. any suggestions? thank you fellow jeepers.

here are pics when i first got it.. i sold the hardtop on CL to some dude, and he ended up giving me all of his diamond plate accents from his old jeep and a soft top (for now) till i buy the rampage half cab... anyway heres when i first got her... (pics revolve around hard top..sorry. but you get the idea)

Was the old owner a pro at crashing into things? lol

At least the frame looks pretty good, the body repairs are much easier to do. Fixing the floors will be just cutting out the old metal, and welding in a new floor piece from a donor jeep.

At least I'm not the only one that got a rude introduction to Jeep rust! LOL I just bought my first Jeep 3 days ago, a 1989 YJ. When I pulled back the carpeting on the driver's side, I discovered a similar surprise. This Jeep was an ebay purchase, and the owner failed to mention this. For me, its not that big of a deal, as I have a mig welder and some body work experience. It won't be an expensive fix, a $65 replacement floor panel, and a tube of 3M Fast 'n Firm Seam Sealer. You mentioned fiberglassing, that's totally not needed. Just get a tube of the 3M Fast 'n Firm to seal the edges of the repair.

haha pretty much dude.. she cant drive for shit. it was my girlfriends lesbian friends jeep. as you can tell by the auto transmission lol.

chezuschrist 08-21-2011 07:35 PM

oh shit, yeah we got the same exact problem lol. so ended up going with this. i cut and removed most rusted out parts in the middle( being careful of the lines that are in the middle), got some pieces of sheet metal and then sanded as much as possible to the metal and my buddy helped me out with his mig welder.. on the top by the pedals we used 3 pop rivots to hold it in. afterwards we painted it so it wont rust and then added silicon around it to seal it . heres some pics !

when we cut all the rust and crap...

mig welded
http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/...ycheww/016.jpg

and finished with the driver side. starting passenger side tomorrow !

Copperhead let me know how yours goes!

Copperhead 08-21-2011 07:50 PM

Man, you work fast! Make sure you paint the backside of that metal, to give it some protection. I'm going to place an order for a reproduction floor pan right now, so I should get it by the end of the week. When I get it installed, I'll post a pic on this thread.:wavey:

I also just bought an 89 YJ. Luckily the body was in great shape but had no motor in it. But I found a great deal on a 4.0 out of a 95. Will it match up to the transmission?

MattD 08-21-2011 08:06 PM

Rugs are a Jeep's worst enemy when owners don't remove them, if they get wet. Damn things can take all winter to dry out, while rust doesn't care how cold it gets.

I found a 3" circular hole on the drivers side footwell in my '97 TJ that I purchased. Luckily, everything else was pretty much rust free and the rest of the floor was solid.

Got rid of the rugs, treated the rust, fixed the hole, and did Monstaliner on the interior. Now, when water gets in i simply pull the plugs and wipe with a rag.

Waiting to see your repair. Good luck.

I'm in the same boat with rust, though I knew it was there when I bought it. My floor looks like chezuschrist's floor's before picture. Though right now it has the side of a computer tower serving as a temp floor until I get a patch panel. The PC tower was tan like my YJ too lol.

The rest of the floor is solid though, just the driver's side is like that

its the same trans, so i would imagine it would.
your going to need all the wiring out or the hood on the 95 as well as the computer.

yeah man, i can imagine there was probably a puddle of water under both sides for no less than 10 years lol. caught me by surprise when removing the carpet, i wanto put some sort of bedliner on it for sure. i wouldnt mind spray-on bedliner.. is monstaliner spray on? you have any pics of how monstaliner came out on the tub by any chance ? thanks dude.

really happy with the turn out. pretty cheap for everything too.. considering the size of the hole (thats what she said). really the only thing i payed for was the sheet metal and silicon. thanks again !

well, the front carpet i yanked it out and kept cutting it into sections instead of taking out the seats..etc. so no front carpet.. but anyway it REALLY smelled like ass lol. no joke. but if you'd be interested in the back carpet? let me know.

PaulRevere1991 08-22-2011 12:28 AM

yea, ill take the back and trunk area.
how's 25 shipped sound? PayPal?
you shouldn't have had to cut the front carpet to get it out, it has 2 parts that just sit around each seat.

www.monstaliner.com

It rolls on really nice and excellent quality product. Also possible to spray on. Started out as a coating for boats. It's also tintable so they have some wild colors. Very good people to deal with. Shipping from NY to Alberta they gave me a price of 24$! Post pics of whatever you do!

 no good in Canada. Oh well.

NateD 08-24-2011 06:22 PM

Wow and i thought my rust was bad XD

I will mention i have the same passenger side dent just a bit smaller...

After you get your holes filled up, coat her with some rubberized undercoating/rhinoliner, etc..
