Anyone know about adjusting the wiring of the lights so that i can install a switch to have high/low beams on the headlights of my 1980 CJ5?? I got new lights that say they are the rplacements for it and they have a high/low beam on it but my jeep just has a pull knob to turn them on or off no high setting

Do you have a button on the floor to the left of the clutch? I didn't know what mine was at first either, but if you have one that is the button for the brights. If it doesn't work, try cleaning out any junk from inside it.

Hmm gonna have to check, that would be so great if i did. I have to go buy a wiring repair kit and try and get all the gauges and heater in my jeep working before winter. So far all that works are exterior lights, wipers (not the pump tho), and the gas and speedometer. The rest nothing, not even inside lights so i drive by street light to see my speed and engine sound.

No good no switch there :( but there are 3 mounting holes to put in switches, always gotta find a plus i guess? So any ideas on how to put one in?

What do you have for a turn signal switch?
The wiring is pretty simple but we need to find out what you have to start from.
Do you have carpet? if so look under the carpet for some wires that may have been cut off by your left foot.
if all else fails, try tracing the wires from switch to headlight. You should already be wired for high beams, just gotta figure out what and where the switch was.

to be honest you can get a floor switch pretty cheap and its ten times easier to wire it to the floor then to get into the steering colum.

On my dash i got my light switch its a pull out knob. One pull turns my lil blinker lights on, pull it the rest and it turns the light on. No carpet just bare metal so no wiring there. My blinker is attatched to the steering column but it just tilts up and down to turn the blinkers on.
So the light switch is not even connected to the steering column at all so it shouldnt be hard to put in a switch i wouldnt think??? Now when they say a foot witch does that mean u turn it on with your foot or is that wjust where the thing is wired to then it has something else that comes up?

My I hope this thread is making someone other than me feel old.
Yes a foot switch is exactly what it says. Almost ALL cars had only foot switches 20 to 25 years ago.
It mounts on the floor next to your break pedal or clutch if you have one. You more less step on it to switch the brights on and off.
