Upgrade to H4 or HID Headlights on my 2000?
 
I've been reading some about these upgrades and I'm a little apprehensive about going with HID because I'm afraid of blinding everybody I meet on the road. Right now I'm leaning toward just going with an H4 upgrade but thought I'd see if some of you would weigh in with your vote either way.

JP magazine did a headlight replacement shootout. The Hella replacement headlights came out on top. I paired mine with Phillips X-treme Power Bulbs. This makes for a very potent combo, and is completely street legal.

I upgraded my lights to KC H4 Conversions last year and love them. I too, don't care to blind anyone with HIDs. If I want to shed more light, I just flip on my PIAA driving lights. Also, I believe with HIDs you'll have to upgrade your wiring harnesses.

I upgraded mine to hid. I use hella e-code h4 housing and 6500k DDM hid kit. Just make sure that you adjust your headlamp once you are done. I love mine so far and decided to convert my hella fog lights to hid.

You do not need to upgrade the wiring harnesses. Just make sure you order the H4 hid kit and matter of plug and play.

I have Hella E-Codes with 6000K DDM HID's. Very happy with them. The light output is amazing.

Hella e-code and 6k HID for over a year and not a single highbeam flashed at me.

For the guys with HID's did you have trouble getting them adjusted? Do you get flashed by other drivers?

I get high beamed everyonce and a while, but its the cars that sit very low to the ground, and my headlights are directly at their view.

Probably the best bet is to just swap over to H4, and you can always have the option of putting in HID's if you want something brighter. Contrary to what that JP magazine article says, I love my Delta Quad-bar headlights. The xenon bulbs were brighter than stock and in my opinion are the best looking ones out of the bunch.

I went with the Delta H4 Conversion kit, it was like $90.00 and worth every penny. The stock Sealed Beams just doesn't light up the road/trails enough and the high beams brighten up anything in front of you... easy to install.... "EDIT" I added the wrong photo from my saved gallery... sorry

Make sure you use the e-code housing and not the DOT housing. The DOT housing produced too much glare and will get flashed from oncoming traffic. E-code has a better cut-off.

What exactly is the E-code housing? I adjusted my headlights and I hardly ever get flashed unless it's a lil sports car or something...

I believe e-code is European code spec. The DOT housing I think the lights have too much spread which creates a lot of glare. I tried the it and end up returning it for the e-code housing.

Good to know, thanks... maybe it's the manufacturer, style of light etc.etc. mine turned out fine, no glaring from what im told w/all the night wheelin i've done... Sense jeeps tend to get nailed in the windshield and headlights, im sure one day i'll be changing them out...

Read from someone once to paint the hid bulb shields with black high temp paint to help with glare, even with e-code housings. Anyone else do this/any truth to this?

I've had my e-code/HID combo fo almost 3 years. The lenses are properly adjusted and have NEVER been flashed once so I'd think it was fair to say there is no bothersome glare.
