Scary brake problem.
So the other day I was going 50 down this main road and this dumb blond bimbo gets out of the bus on the side of the road, walks around the bus, and then proceeds to jaunt across the intersection that I am rapidly approaching. (myself and three other cars.) needless to say it was almost a slaughter, and a four car pile up. I almost killed her, but she dodged me. Idk how. Problem is, I stood on the brakes and it felt like my brakes depressed about 1/3 of the way, and then it felt like they bottomed out... Like it hit metal or something. Now when the jeep is at a stop I can mash the brakes and replicate the situation every time. Now if I have to brake hard because a light turns yellow sometimes I end up in the middle of the crosswalk. I'm afraid it could be worse some day. I checked the master cylinder I think? I don't know what to look for...

Help? I feel unsafe.

When mine did that after a hard stop on the highway it was because one of my front break hoses was weak and a small pin hole opened up and it was loosing pressure/break fluid so I changed the hose bled it and it's good now. If you have any questions and I don't answer it's cause I'm in costa rica on vacation. So I'll answer when I'm on Wi-Fi.

Hold your foot on the pedal with firm pressure, if it gos down to the floor slowly it's time for a new master cylinder.

If you have a bad master pumping the pedal a few times will bring the pressure back up temporarily. Very possibly you have a leak somewhere. A blown hose, rotted steel line, or a bad wheel cylinder in the rear, they fail very common. If the fluid level is low, you have a leak.

True, I meant after checking foe leaks first.
