2012 (and 2011) factory suspension options?
 
As I continue to refine what I want/need, I’ve made my way to the suspensions.

I'm now trying to figure out what model gets what suspension (among other things) and I’m a bit lost.

According to the 2011 Jeep “build” website, the Sport has Normal Duty, the Sahara has Monotube (Ummm…OK….) and the Rubi has Heavy Duty.

Was that changed for 2012? Did the Sahara and Rubi have the same suspension in 2011? Do all three have the same now? (I don’t even want to get into tow packages right now).

According to the press release from a few days ago, there were “some” changes for 2012.

Shocks have been retuned for 2012 and are designed for optimum balance between advanced on-road handling and rugged off-road capability. All models are equipped with high pressure monotube shocks and include Low Speed Tunable (LST) valve technology. At low speed suspension motions, LST provides firm control. As speed increases, valve stiffness decreases preventing an overly stiff ride.

Now, according to the spec sheets, everything in the suspension is the same between the 2011 and 2012. Also, according to the spec sheets (for both years), monotubes come on any 17 or 18 inch wheel package.

Any thoughts/help would be appreciated. I have a feeling I will get more accurate answers here than at a dealership.

As to shocks, I didn't read through the links, but I'm pretty sure in 2011 they started including the same gas shocks on Saharas that have always come on Rubicons. Sports have always (and continue to) come with hydro shocks.

As to coil springs, they vary from Jeep to Jeep. The thinking is that the Rubicons tend to come with stiffer springs, but this assumption largely doesn't play out. Stiffer springs tend to be associated with 4 doors, hard tops, and tow packages, but there's definitely some randomness beyond that.
