Any 2012ers going to do an exhaust?

I've been watching exhaust clips on youtube and was wondering if any of the other 2012 owners are planning to change their exhaust. So far there doesn't seem to be much to choose from and what is out there sounds like it should have a giant coffee can for a tip and a giant wing on the back. We've got a nice exhaust on everything we own and would like to do the same with our Jeep, but i'm not sure that's going to be possible from what I've heard so far.

Not a good engine for headers.

I REALLY doubt that the Pentastar will ever get a set of headers. See the pics on this site and you'll see why. There is no exhaust manifold. The exhaust comes right out of the sid3e of the head. I jnow the current system is tuned for the VVT engine, but a larger diameter pipe would probably be a benefit. I plan on testing a couple options on my new JK 4dr, and will post the results in some vids soon.

Who said anything about headers? You are aware that there is more to an exhaust than headers aren't you?

walker111 09-27-2011 08:37 AM

I will buy a cat back exhaust as long as there are some dyno sheets of it. It needs to make power or atleast stay the same without the front driveshaft problem.

DamMan 09-27-2011 03:12 PM

I want a rear winch so when somebody comes up with a successful cat-back exhaust that relocates the muffler, I'm in.

Good topic and I'd love to hear of some successful changes out there. I wouldn't need a significant power increase, just a nice sound and as stated by walker111, no additional problems.

I'm wondering what a catback is going to do on the 2012, since you guys have that weird loop in the exhaust......

I'm with you on this topic. I want to relocate the muffler, so that it isn't a target while rock crawling. If I can get a descent muffler relocation setup that adds some torque, that would be great. If not, I'm mainly interested in just the relocation. I don't need a louder Jeep.

Anyone put a catback on yet? I am stuck between banks, dynomax or gibson but not many clips out there.

Mmmm....yeppers the 12s exhaust is a pandora's box

Thanks, can't wait.

Riccochet 02-03-2012 06:11 AM

I'm waiting till I can hear some sound clips first.

I wonder what the purpose is for that loop?

The loop is on the driver side to make it equal length with the passenger side length of pipe before the collector when they become one. This improves power by allowing exhaust scavenging to occur (as one exhaust pulse flows through the collector, it "sucks" the next exhaust pulse out of the opposite bank). If they were unequal lengths, the exhaust pulses would be out of sync and scavenging would not occur. It counterintuitively improves exhaust flow. There's no need to straighten the exhaust on that side, and doing so will most likely decrease power, albeit slightly.

Links?

I'm looking at this, just to tweak the sound a bit. Not really wanting anything too loud but something to bring it to life. Brand new not even on their own site yet. They're up the road from me, which saves plus their reputation is without question:

I recently went through a little exhaust mania and went to a local muffler shop to just have them build an exhaust system for me because all I really wanted was dual tips but to keep the sound as close to stock as possible.

They cut out the resonator that is in the middle of the jeep and took off the stock muffler behind the axle. Put a turbo style muffler in the place of the resonator and put a splitter after the axle to get the dual tips out the back.
Turbo muffler sounded like crap when accelerating but wasnt bad when cruising. But it had to go.

So I went back and had a Magnaflow 18" 5x8 oval muffler put in its place. (not sure what I was thinking at the time, but whatever..)
It got even louder but sounded a LOT better but had a slight drone while cruising.

So I went back and got another magnaflow 14" by 4" round put on behind the other magnaflow and it has quieted it down a little and sounds a lot better (atleast enough to make me not hate driving) and still has a little bit of a drone when at highway speeds.

If anyone in North TX with a 2012 JKU wants to swap for their stock mid pipe with resonator, let me know:D

Thanks for the link. Thats actually not bad for a v6 and less rice sounding than a magnaflow imo.

Yeah there is but most of your power comes from headers if you could swap them. High flow cats and mufflers are blaaahh in the performance category and are more for altering sound then anything else. Personally I think noise on any engine besides a v8 and up dosent sound pleasing so im going to leave my jeep alone.

Bump for more clips.

New2012JEEP 02-16-2012 12:44 PM

I can put mine on way home tonight, but...Will a mytouch 4G give the sound quality you are looking for?

Blackened 02-24-2012 12:56 AM

Ok so I have heard Gibson and Dynomax. Who wants to try out a Banks setup? :D

pdubois64 02-24-2012 01:02 AM

I don't see the point on a V6. Never heard anything that sounded good. Sounds like a 4 cyl with a fart can, but a bit deeper in tone.
(Flame suit on)

ETA: The clip in post #24 sounds decent at idle...

Won't be flamed by me because I agree most V6 exhausts sound horrible. I did hear one on a 3.8 a month ago and I really wish I would have followed the guy and found out what it was because it had a nice deep tone without the rice sound. So its hard but not impossible to make them sound nice.
