Good ole Ocala... when I was in ROTC in college.. that is where we did our Land Nav FTX and our Platoon and Squad level STX's....

Ocala (ONF) is a great place for a stock Jeep! Just a heads up, though. The rules have changed recently there and the Rangers have been pretty aggressive about enforcing the trail rules. Stay off and out of the water! You might want to pick up a map at one of the Visitor stations on the way in, although I understand that the Pitman visitor center is closed.

I would be interested in going that way Sunday. It's only a couple hours north of me. What kind of terrain will I find there? Any hills? How open are the trails, will I need a new paint job when I get back?

Little_Red_TJ 08-30-2007 03:53 AM

Lots of sand........Marked forest roads are quite open, some of the not so traveled trails are overgrown a bit. Since we haven't had much rain I doubt there will be much mud/water, especially West of 19. There used to be quite a bit of mud/water in the St Francis area, but I haven't been there in quite a while, many rumors of very aggressive enforcement.

MCG, What time are you heading up that way? I've never been there, so I need someone to follow. Seems like real good odds of going. Can't write in stone till Friday night, but all looks good, and I'd love to go. Only radio I got in the Jeep is a 2 meter rig. I been needing to dig up a CB for it. Seems like more CB's are used in Jeep country.
BTW, Hello WB4DAH, my YL is K4LUV.

I got unlimited calls on weekends too. I will be ready anytime after 6AM. It is a 2 hour ride. I got GPS also, just no coordinates on where to go when I get there. I saw some dune pics in another post that looked neat, would like to find that area for sure.

Guys,
you might try the maps the USFS is using for the new ROute designation.
here is the "preferred" alternative. Its a big pdf, but if you print it on 11x17 it will definitely get you around.

Hey guys,
Have any of you been to Hard Rock? Check out www.hardrockmx.com and you will see they have a section open to 4x4 vehicles only. Been there a couple times on club rides. Best time to go is the last weekend of the month when the Roller Coaster section is open. (intense hill climbs) $25 for the day. I got a few pics that I will post up this weekend.

"W4MAC" 09-01-2007 03:31 PM

Hey MCG, PM sent with phone number. Let me know what time.

GixxerRider 09-02-2007 06:54 PM

Damn I was just looking at the Hardrock area, that looks like hella fun, even though I didn't see any pics. As soon as I get some new tires and make sure my rig is off-road ready I am definately gonna be up there!! Might be nice to hit some of the regular trails too. :punk:

I road Ocala National Forest from 10am till 5pm trying to find where people play. All I could find was 4 wheelers. Guess you gotta know where to go.
