YJ Frame....

So I'm a fairly new Jeeper, and a group of friends got me into it. I picked up a '92 YJ knowing that I needed to do some work to it. All in all, it's been great, but the frame on this thing is a complete P.O.S.!

Here is my list so far:

Shackle lift
2" body lift
Dick Cepek rims with General AT2 tires 33 x 12.5 x 15
water pump
alternator
power steering pump
high flow exhaust
K&N with airbox mods
Smittybilt XRC8 winch
replaced all universal joints
quadratec frame replacement kit on rear shackles
frame replacement on steering gear box
frame replacement on passenger side rear shock mount
diamond plate rocker panels

So now back to the garage, because I found my transfer case/skid plate had a large crack in it, and the frame was completely rusted out underneath it. There are only 2 of 6 bolts, that are still in the frame.

Also have a new clutch for it, because the slave cylinder is spitting fluid out of the bell housing. So looks like we will be killing two birds with one stone.

So there is my YJ story... I'm sure there will be many more to add!

Here are the pictures of the frame where the skid plate mounts

I would quickly check the rest of the frame, especially where the steering box mounts.

You should make friends with a good welder, and start calling yards for a replacement frame...

Or, go nuts with one of theese:

X2 on the steering box mount and also check the rear cross members (where the fuel lines run over the one in front of the tank). Keep an eye on the rear shackle areas also. Jeep looks nice enough to deserve a new frame...ours was worse than that by far and we changed ours...it was easier than making the repairs. The other problem is you have a boxed frame. When I decided to change ours, I cut the old frame up to see how bad the rust was on the INSIDE...it was scary even in the main frame tubes where ous looked solid enough on the outside

i've already replaced the rear shackle sections on both sides, and the steering box mount. I have a friend who I'm brining the jeep to this weekend, who is a great fabricator and welder. He is going to reproduce the transfer case mounts and that section of the frame. Weld one spot, and watch another break. I guess that's jeeping!
