Maine Lift Laws
Just wondering if anyone could help me out with how much of a lift you can go with and still pass inspection. Just picked up a TJ with 4" lift with 33's. Thanks

Lift laws are complicated in this state. Suspension height does not matter. The frame height from the lowest point on the front and rear of the vehicle cannot exceed certain heights. GVRW is what determines how high you can go. unfortunately a Jeep is not heavy, therefore is greatly effected by certain lift sizes. As far as your tires, technically you cannot go any higher then two sizes up in overall diameter from the OEM size. 33 are ok, since many are 32" in height, flip side, many 30's are 31 in height. so your good there. The other side of the lift laws is that you cannot disconnect any OEM equipment such as sway bars. That being said, I sway bar disconnect is legal, because its a temporary measure not permanent. Im not a lawyer but I am a cop up in washington county. be glad to answer anything else you may have. thanks.

Many will inspect a jeep with 35s.

It's all open to interpretation of the inspector.

This is very true. As long as its tastefully done without anything wild and crazy looking the law is pretty tame. It's when you get too much fender/tire gap going and tire widths way out past fenders do they start barking.

The trick is making it big but still appropriately stock looking.
