Thule Gutter mount rack on Freedom Top

Anyone with experience using these mounts for the bars? They clamp onto the avaiable rain gutters. I have used them on cars with metal gutters and the car did fine. I have read drilling for the Yakima rack can be bad, therefore the question. Thanks.

The owner's manual stresses that the gutters are NOT load bearing. They function as gutters and that's it, nothing else. I wouldn't want to drill either and that's why I'm saving my pennies for a Kongo rack or similar.

Interesting- wouldn't you think the product was tested before sold.
I have no idea what that thing is but
I would guess it mounts to the gutters but does not put all it's load on them ??

Corporations will tell you lots of things for CYA, I think actual experience would be nice. I would not use that rack for any load in a Thule box over 100 lbs or any more than a bike or a fishing rod box, I just wonder if anyone had problems with it.

Good point, it does look like it wraps around the top a little possibly limiting the load on the gutters themselves :)
