What would you do? 07 Unlimited X or 12

I am stuck between a brand new 2012 Unlimited Sport and a used 2007 Unlimited.

OPTION 1: First vehicle is a 2007 Wrangler Unlimited X with 69,000 miles asking $18,900 thinking I can talk em down to 17,500

OPTION 2: 2012 Unlimted Sport MSRP $28,230 So I should be able to get the price knocked down a bit. Not sure is this a Sport or a Sport-S and what is the "right hand package"

My thoughts are, of course I would like to have new.. but it's another $10,000 BUT, i know the 2012 has the better engine and NO miles on it. Is the extra 10K worth going new?? Any thoughts would be GREATLY appreciated!! I am a little worried about the mileage on the 2007.

Take the extra 10k and sink it into mods on the 2007, IMO.

I don't know much about the specifics of the 07's other than they were the first year of the model. It seems like a good idea to look for an 09 or something.

Right hand package if for mail delivery or parts of the world where they drive on the other side of the road compared to the US.

I just did an Autotrader search and found a bunch of 4 door models for sale between $19K - $22K. All of these had half the miles of the used one you are looking at. Regardless, it is your money and your decision.

Just bought my 07. Some minor clutch noises but other than that, no issues so far (35,500 miles)
Op... up to you, don't let us decide.

Thanks to all above. My thought is the 69K seems a bit high to me and it's the first year thing that's a bit concerning. Also, I am thinking if I have it for 2 years and then it's at 100k mileage, then I think I may lose more than what I would have 2 years into the 2012. Anyone else??

I was faced with similar dilemma during my torturous year of looking for a solution.

I was about ready to spring on a new 2010 when a perfect 08JK Sahara came along with 15K on it and I stole it from a private party motivated to sell.

IMHO your 07 is too much money, too many miles for the money.

But it ain't my payment either.
Would you rather pay the banker or pay the mechanic?

I always buy used. I was somewhat tempted to go with the 2012 model, but decided I'd rather have the extra cash in my pocket. I don't know how long you are planning to keep it, but if it's not a long term deal, you would be better of financially going with the 07 due to the depreciation of a new car. (Yes, I know Jeeps do decent job of holding their value.)

That said, 69k is an awful lot of miles. I decided when I bought used I as going to be well below 50k and found a 2008 model with less than 30k and got a pretty good deal for it.

Ultimately, it's your cash though and you have to make the decision.

If you have the loot go 12.
If you after saving some- then 65 is not all that bad for a 07. I am sure any TSB's or recalls were taken care of, get the CarFax.
If it is a power concern in the 07 you can take some of the money saved and regear
It. Many complaints of the 07-11 autos are
under geared. Can build your self a pretty good rig with that money :thumb:

For daily drivers, I like to buy new if I can.

If I were going to make a dedicated playtoy, I'd buy used.

Fact is, for offroad, there's not a whole lot a new 12 can do that a used one with an extra $10k thrown into the mix can't- shoot, there's not a whole lot offroad the new one can do differently than a recent used one anyhow.

Some of the most fun I've ever had was with my '88 4runner I bought off of eBay. Used, sometimes, equals freedom from the fear of dinging the new whip. LOL

X 2 cept my baby has 59000 miles and other than that, she runs great!

Glad to hear some sound wisdom on this thread instead of the typical recent "2012 or you are a dummy" mantra. 10K in upgrades can build quite a rig if desired. New is nice too. I bet you can find an '08 or '09 for about the same price if you search hard. Just thinking about the 1st year thing. May be something, may be nothing. Enjoy the hunt!

I had a 2007 Sahara that i traded for the 2012 Rubicon. The difference between the 3.8 and the 3.6 is like night and day, in my opinion. I've said it before, it may have been the 3.21 in the rear of the Sahara vs the 4.10 in the rear of the Rubicon, but I wouldn't go back. In my opinion, the Rubi is a keeper.....unless they come out with a diesel. Then, all bets are off. good luck with your decision. Both are great vehicles, just depends on what you need, want, and financial circumstances.
