Really hoping my axle isn't getting ready to blow.
Yesterday I noticed a sound coming from the rear, somewhere under the rear seats and floor, the best way I candescribe it is a gurgling whistle not super loud, just audible if I was on a road by myself.. It was only happening when I would be in gear and letting off the gas. It would go away if I was cruising or if I had the clutch disengaged. Today it was worse, I can hear it when accelerating, and its louder when I downshift and decellerate. If I'm going around 15mph in first but with my foot on the clutch I can just barely hear it. If I pit it in neutral it goes away immediately. I checked the fluid in the transmission and rear diff, I didn't have an Allen key the right size to check the transfer case but there are no signs of leaking. I also checked the joints on the rear drive shaft and there is no play in it at all.
Anyone know what my problem might be?

i'm thinking more throw out bearing than rear end.

The sound only happens when the clutch is engaged (foot off of clutch pedal) if it were the TOB the sound should only happen when the clutch is disengaged (foot pushing down on clutch pedal) the sound only really happens when I'm in gear driving so I would think it might be the input shaft. If it was the input shaft do you know if it would sound like it was coming from just behind the front seats?

it might. there is a lot of unflat metal under there that could bounce the sound around.

Good point. I'll park it till this weekend when I can take it in and have it looked at.
