Mud Behind the Tail Lights JK
I did this Mod on 10.15.07
A hole in the bottom of the jeep will shoot mud (where the piece of foam is)up and behind both of the rear tail lights.
First remove the tail lights The 2 screws only on the right side of the left light and the left side of the right light. Then clean out the cavity well! Remove the foam block from both holes.
Left side out.
Right side out.
Next you see the hole on each side.
Left side hole.
Right rear hole.
Then place a piece of rubber over the holes.
Next fill with Marine low expansion foam.
Left side full up to the tag wires and don't get any on the gas breather.
Right side about half way up.
Let cure, reconnect wires to lights and screw back in..
Left rear done!
Right rear done!
Now no more mud or stuff will go up into the holes and rot out behind your tail lights..
I got the marine low expansion foam from a boat repair house. It is made to breath and will not let water stay in but keep dirt out!
On the 23rd at 7am I removed the right tail light and put in 28oz of water on top of the foam then put the tail light back in.
Just a little bit ago (3pm/1500hrs) I removed the right tail light and checked the cavity and not a drop of moister was found! So this was a great fix it keeps the dirt, & mud out but still lets it breath!
As of today still works great!
UP dated for 2011 & up
On the passenger side it is all sealed up no more foam pad. Under shot.
Drill a 5/8" hole from the bottom up. I had to remove the tire to get in to the spot to drill.
Feed hose in and up with no cap on.
Loop the hose in side well and put cap on and secure up with wire tie.
Finish running hose to rear diff. Don't forget to check for clearance with axle and spring, wire ties in and your done.
I noticed dried mud in that section when I was installing stuff too.
That is an interesting idea.

Not sure what the difference between this and marine foam is, they both seem to be made of polyurethane

I have a 2014, and noticed this ladt night. The passenger side tail light cavity was filled already with some spray/expanding foam, most likely from factory; but the driver side is "wide open" to the wheel well, with even a fair slot over the bumper end at about 2.5" long and 1/4" at its widest?!! Strange they sprayed one side and not the other? I guess I'll be heading out to the local hardware store to get some insulating/expanding spray foam! Thanks for the thread!
Could it be posdible thr driver side is left open for "posdible" gas spillage, do drain down and out?
Make sure it's low expansion foam. Other stuff could cause a bulging problem you don't want.
In my post I have the up date for the 2011 and up.
After all this time still great no moisture or rust in them.
Not sure if you read this part in my post, but I have a 2014 and it came from factory with expanding foam already in the passenger (right) side!

Did mine awhile back, besides looking at the bottom - look into the taillight opening and up. Both sides have openings at the top too. If you have the inner wheel well liners in, there's not much to see or worry about. If you want to pull the liners out like I did when I put Bushwacker flatties on - you need to look at filling the top up or the mud and water will spin off the tire and into the back and then sit on top of the foam and plastic you used on the bottom. I saw it right away before this happened, but it could easily enough happen.
Not sure of the name but we have been buying it at Boat owners warehouse. It is like a West marine but cheaper. We just did a few Jeeps in my club a few weeks back. 1-2014, 2 -2013, 2-2011, and a 2009 Jeep.
