new JKU rubi question
 
Just purchased a tan JKU Rubicon and picked up a set of 305/70/16 Duratracs to replace the BFGs. Max pressure on the side wall is 65 cold, currently running at 45 psi. What is the ideal pressure for this tire size and set up? Thanks everyone

Probably depends on whether you are going to be running it on the Interstate or going off-road. 45 might be pretty low unless you are going wheeling and need to air down.

Oh this was bought to be wheeled :D but it will be our primary DD too.

That's an E load rated tire. That's normally found on a 3/4 ton Dodge or similar work truck. E rating means it's for hauling a heavy load, like a load of gravel or pulling a trailer. It's usually found on 7000# trucks. This means as a DD you'll need to air down (to probably 30) and your ride will be rough. You might get some flex because it has a bit of sidewall. Run them at 55-60psi and they will last forever.

I thought that the middle of the range is what it states on the door.

I know about airing down for trail and especially for sand. But running on the road is pretty much close to what it suggests. Based on your tires if they are different from stock I suppose a chalk test would help you determine it based on how you want them to wear.

BTW, my stock MTs have plenty of tread left and I'm at 56,000 miles. They have been run at the suggested pressure on the door. That has worked well over the life of the tire. Don't plan on changing it.

Most people buying thes tires run F350's and pull commercial trailers. They need a durable tire on gravel roads that can support a lot of weight. They will fit on your unlmited, However, a C-Rated tire might have perofrmed better.

Your tire should be set for 35 to 37 PSI for normal operation. That is the recommended tire pressure for that load tire on a JK

Agree, I bought the factory Moab wheels for my Tj, the tires on them where toast. Not knowing I had replaced with the same
load E MTR that was on the the Rubi.
The ride was absolutely horrible, dropped the psi way down and it helped a little.
Ended up takin a small loss and found a C
rated Duratrac.

If his tires have a max pressure of 65psi they are most likely D rated tires.
F250 and F 350 trucks run E rated tires and have a max pressure of 80 psi.

No they are an E load range. Here are his tires. Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac
