Converting to Manual

What would be involved in converting a 94 auto with the 2.5in it into a manual with the ax-15 and 6cyl.

i have the 6cyl from a 90 xj i need to buy the ax-15

but what else do i need or need to worry about? Whats involved with this?

Thanks

For the amount of time/money you will have into the drivetrain swap from a 4cyl. to a 6, you could drop in a SBC and get a much better return on the swap. Almost nothing (expensive) is the same between the 2 motors, thanks again Jeep:rolleyes:. Most people that look into doing that swap either sell their rig and buy something that already has the 4.0 in it, or do a SBC swap, in my experience.

i dont know what a sbc is but we have the motor already out just finished and i was thing of going to manual because the aouto trans in the cherokee doesnt stay in first is goes 1-2 then 3 then drive. And we also have to make a custom mount or crossmember for it. So myt dad suugested converting to an ax-15 trans and doing manual trans and i was wondering what i needed

Hey I would like your old steering column if you still have it and it has the shifter on the column for the automatic.

HkdOnJP 09-07-2007 10:38 AM

I didn't do the work myself but paid a shop to do it for me...

in 1995 they swapped in a 91 XJ 6cyl in place of my 89 YJs 2.5. I already had the ax-15 so they just bolted the 4.0 to it... some of the things they changed if I remember was the motor mounts, fuel pump, computer, exhaust and custom wiring harness and bellhousing (can't rememeber for sure about the bellhousing... i don't think they reused the 2.5 bellhousing). jeep ran awesome for about 10 yrs after that but near the end was having starting issues from the crankshaft position sensor or something like that. A common problem I guess with the XJs motors but easily replaced. I sold it just a year or two ago.

In other words, I was happy with the outcome. Sorry I can't contribute any technical knowledge about it though.
