SYI vs Tummy Tuck
OK, I need some opinions, or facts. I am about ready to order a SYI and drive shaft. It's advertized as being for 4 inch lift or bigger, and HC skid pan.
I just would like to lose the slip yoke, and the cross member drop brackets, and use the stock cross member. I'm sure they will cut the shaft to whatever size I order, just wondering should I wait, and go HC at the same time? I thought about going to a HC cross member, but I really will never climb on a rock. There just aint none in Florida. Here we play in sand and mud, maybe a hill or two if we can find any. I was told I would have to do a BL also. I'm really trying to avoid the body lift. I've been told these stock slip yokes break easy, so I'm trying to get ready to do some trail riding without towing it home. Will I have to get adjustable upper control arms too, with the super short SYI, and only a 4 inch lift?

have no idea what HC is either.. High clearance perhaps?

I run an std SYE with a tom woods shaft on @5" of lift. The super short one will give you a longer drive shaft. It will also allow you NOT to use a spacer for the Transfercase skid plate. As for adj control arms, you may need them you may not. I have rear upper adj control arms on mine, but I also run a HP dana 60, so not really a good comparsion. My buddy ran the same lift on stock axles and had at least upper adj arms as I recall Also you may wish to check out tom woods site for other SYE kits

Rear Upper Adjustable Control Arms are needed for a SYE and CV Drive Shaft.

Yes, HC was to mean High Clearance. I guess I should wait and get adjustable control arms at the same time then. I will also checkout the Tom Woods site. I know he offers another kit that's not the Super Short, but you never know what the future could bring. I might feel the need for 39's one day, if it's not my DD then. I would need to do a body lift for the high clearance cross member, correct? That's why I'm not doing it all at the same time. Then i would have to add the cost of a body lift and MM lift, and thats kinda outta the budjet for right now.
