video with sound of my cylider slap thread
ok. first part is only ticking. idk think its lifters. o well. probably normal? the second part you can clearly hear the knocking, it has plenty of oil. and im at a loss as you know if you read my other thread. if you listen closely at first it you can hear one distinct tick that almost is in sync with the knock. the knock really isnt all that loud. only when i get the camera in close. there is also like a "puh" noise that sounds like a misfire. but isnt loud like a skip or dead cylinder. unless i have no compression :banghead: if that helps any in your diagnosis.

NHWRANGLER 09-07-2011 10:27 PM

now im scared. i need another opinion to settle my nerves, or build themup enough i decide to sell it

wwch99tj 09-07-2011 10:28 PM

Mine started out like that I got it to last 40k by babying it by the time I replaced it it sounded like the video I posted in the other thread. Try running one oil change of diesel oil in it, it might help if you sticky lifters. That oil has more detergents in it :dunno: worth a shot

NHWRANGLER 09-07-2011 10:32 PM

what ended up happening to yours?

wwch99tj 09-07-2011 10:37 PM

Broken piston skirt. I put a reman engine in back in march. When mine first started I thought it was an exhaust leak, but it gradually got worse and worse. Sorry about your troubles man I know how it is

NHWRANGLER 09-07-2011 10:38 PM

:(im gunna put it on craigs list right now. all done

Tang87 09-07-2011 10:41 PM

Well crap. I just rebuilt mine :( this just stinks I pray that's not what mine is. They said they miked all the pistons. Would that find most imperfections?

wwch99tj 09-07-2011 10:42 PM

Good luck hope you get another one soon

NHWRANGLER 09-07-2011 10:43 PM

yeah. is their any way to fix this right now wwch99tj? before i need to sell it or pay 2 grand?

wwch99tj 09-07-2011 10:53 PM

Not really you can try thicker oil til you can fix it or sell it. There is. 5w 40 will give you the same start up protection and be a a little thicker when hot. It'll quiet it a little

NHWRANGLER 09-07-2011 10:57 PM

ok. thanks.

wwch99tj 09-07-2011 10:58 PM

No prob

Gaebora 09-08-2011 12:24 AM

Yeah. Sounds exactly like my tick did. I had a broken piston skirt also.
