Miller Jeep Trail - Saturday 9/24

This will be a run up Miller Jeep Trail on Saturday 9/24, with optional overnight camping, and optional play day at Hungry Valley on Sunday 9/25.

Weather Forecast for Frazier Park as of 9/23:
Saturday: 73/Sunny/0% precip/12mph wind
Saturday Night: 57/Mostly Clear/0% precip/10mph wind
Sunday: 69/Sunny/0% precip/12mph wind

Miller Jeep Trail is rated difficult, but is really moderate for a Jeep, and this season, the trail seems to have gotten easier. For this trail run, everyone must have front and rear tow points. A CB radio is also highly recommended.

Be sure to bring the following (in addition to your usual stuff):
- Pack a lunch to eat on the trail.
- If you're camping overnight, please bring a bundle of firewood.
- If you're camping overnight, you will also need an Adventure Pass, which you can acquire ahead of time at any major sporting goods store, or pick one up at the Ranger Station on the way to the trailhead.

Itinerary:

PLEASE NOTE change in breakfast venue. Due to the size of our group, we'll have breakfast at the Denny's at the Flying J instead of at Big John's Mountain Grill.

We'll be on CB channel 16.

10:00am Gas up and meet at the Flying J in Lebec
42810 Frazier Mountain Rd
Lebec, CA 93243
661-248-2505
There are also Chevron, Mobil and Shell stations in the same area, if you prefer to gas up at one of those before meeting up at Flying J.

10:30am Have breakfast at the Denny's right there at the Flying J

12:00 noon Leave Denny's and head out to the trailhead turnoff
N34 45.578 W119 02.987

12:30pm Air down and disconnect at the Staging area, then hit the trail!
N34 44.059 W119 02.364

Break for lunch along the trail at Sunset Camp
N34 41.998 W119 00.023

4:00pm We should reach the end of the trail about this time, and find ourselves at Dutchman Camp
N34 40.557 W118 58.696

We can camp either here at Dutchman Camp, or head back down the trail and camp at Sunset Camp. We can play it by ear and decide as a group after everyone gets the chance to see both campsites.

Sunday

We'll take the fire road down to Hungry Valley (45-minute drive from Dutchman Camp), and either play at Hungry Valley a bit before leaving, or air up and head home.

I have some friends over at the JK-Adventure group, who are doing a play day at Hungry Valley on Sunday 9/25, so there's also an option of tagging along with them. It sounds like after playing around in the 4WD Practice Area, they may be hitting some of the short trails within Hungry Valley.

Post up if you'd like to join us, and let us know whether or not you'll be camping overnight.

Yes, a stock height Wrangler can make it. You might suffer some body damage through the last section if you don't have rock sliders though.

H2_recoveryteam 09-12-2011 11:43 PM

Sweet. I do have sliders and an oil pan skid so the rest is line choice I suppose lol.

I have some friends over at JK-Adventure who are doing a Hungry Valley Fun Day on Sunday 9/25, so if we do camp overnight (which it looks like we will), we can crash their party when we drop down into Hungry Valley the following morning for any of us who want to. I already posted up over there and invited any of them who want to, to join us on Miller Jeep Trail and camping.

Here's the link to their post:
Hungry Valley OHV run on 9/25...see you there!!

JYJeep 09-13-2011 04:12 PM

Ok, Just found a set of 33"x10.5 BFG TA KMs and installed on the jeep. I'll run the math ($) and time equation but I'm a definite Maybe!

Tires make a world of difference. Glad you found yourself a set that work. And pics are always great

yomondo 09-14-2011 02:28 AM

List has been updated on the first post, and itinerary has also been added.

So who else wants in?

2DEUCE2 09-14-2011 10:02 AM

Okay, Monache Meadows has been moved to 10/07 so I am back in for this trip.

You can put me down as a for sure and camping. I might have a friend from work joining me. He has an '07 JKU Rubicon. I probably won't know if he is coming for sure until the day of the run though and I don't think he will be camping.

Lots of wheeling planned for the next couple of months... I love it!

Sweet! List has been updated.

Man I wish I could go on that Monache Meadows trip too, but I'm saving up my time off to have enough for a Rubicon Trail trip next summer.

Hey Beantown, does this mean you too are in for this MJT run?

Woohoo! We haven't seen you guys since March!

List updated.

530ktm 09-15-2011 09:13 AM

Saturdays are usually not a good day for me as I am now in soccer season, otherwise it would be a fun day.

Bummer. I guess your Saturdays are all booked through November then, right? I remember soccer season. Every Saturday, plus one or two weeknights for three months straight. I coached and reffed for five years.

CY99TJ 09-15-2011 04:55 PM

put us down as a maybe!!

Still leave me as a maybe. If I can get the front end in decent shape, I will be there.

JYJeep 09-15-2011 09:35 PM

What make this. Checked my schedule and it doesn't work out. I'll be watching for the 1st weekend in OCT and still plan to rub Desert Fun on the 15th
