is it a 1990 or 1991?

OK. before someone refers to the yj guide please know, I've read it and agree with it. that being said,

my YJ is Titled as a 1990, but it has an injected 6 and the rear of the tub has the 4.0 H.O. decal. all of this is 1991 right? also the oil filter I bought for a 1990 does not fit. the threads are different.

The M.F.D is in June so maybe its a first 91 model but titled as 90? is weird and now I'm not sure what parts to ask for. a 90 or 91 ? my immediate issue is I need to replace all the tie rod and drag link ends/ everywhere I look I have the option for 1990 or 1991. my current left(drivers) tie rod doesn't even thread up high enough to get the cotter pin through the nut. not even with a cheater bar. So this must be the wrong one currently installed.

What joints do I get 1990 or 1991? any help?

Your VIN# will tell you when it was made

What's the 10th digit of the VIN?

Look at the emissions decal under the hood, that is the god sticker for your engine.

And dont rule out that someone in your Jeeps past might have upgraded to MPFI with a newer engine, they DO just bolt right in place of a 4.2L....

The only way to know for sure what year any vehicle is is the 10th digit of the VIN it's why it's there

If the roll bar is cj 45 degree style its a .90 with possibly a a tbi or mfi the family style extended roll bar was introduced in 91

Ibuildembig 09-13-2011 09:26 AM

^^I believe you meant to say 92 :)

quadrophine 09-13-2011 11:28 AM

I'm pretty sure 91 was the first year for a family style toolbar

Ibuildembig 09-13-2011 12:29 PM

Nosir it was 92

Oddly enough mine is opposite. Mine is titled as a 94 but went to buy a bug and rotor and had to purchase one for a 93.

Guess it won't be that simple then
