2008 Jeep Wrangler make ticking noise from engine !!!

Iím the owner of 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited.

I have a problem with a ticking noise thatís coming from ONLY when engine is worm /has bean driven for 20min/ from engine area ONLY!! If I press gas pedal around 2000rpm and over 2000rpm I start hearing ticking noise

People from dealership changed catalytic convertor but that wasnít the problem, they changed oil and same thing still hearing ticking noise when engine is worm and when I hit 2000rpms.

What might be the problem?

Thanks

Any CEL codes?
Check Spark plugs?

Chiorny 09-15-2011 08:57 AM

Hi they already check that and everything looks good .

Is it a slow click, loud click, fast click?

Can you post an audio clip?

You should also post this in the JKU section since you have a 2008 Jk.

It's fast ticking sound like diesel engine that kind of ticking.

Ok, what has the dealer checked already so we can eliminate that?

Hello all, i am going to bump this thread because I have the same sorta problem.

I have a 2008 Wrangler Unlimited. I only have 41000 miles on it. There are no codes coming up, changed the oil and filter and seafoamed it. It doesn't make the ticking noise when you first start it and it is cold. After about 5 minutes whenit warms up, the ticking noise shows up..the ticking noise goes with the engine RPM's but only at idle. If I rev up the engine in park the noise goes away around 2000 rpms. Has anyone else had this problem, if so was the cause and fix.

I sold my Jeep od Dec 24 2011.
They found out in service that my Jeep was losing oil and they inspect spark plugs and found out that one is different then other. They put new oil and told me to come back in 30 days after that same thing its losing oil more than usual. They inspect engine and found out that cylinder 1 didn’t work properly. They fix that problem taking engine in parts after that everything was ok for another 2 mounts then same problem again. They fix cylinder 1 after that I trade my Jeep for Honda.

Did you have to pay for the repair or was it covered by the dealership?

Chiorny 04-02-2013 02:44 PM

It was covered cause my Jeep broke on 34000km you have that insurance to i think you are covered up to 100 000km but still when I saw that they are fixing engine itselfe 2 times eafter 34000km that told me about quality.

sorry Jeep but that was truth :(

As long as your jeep is still under warranty they should fix it if they determine there is a problem. Only problem is it is their call, not yours. Even sometimes the dealership will say it needs to be fixed and the manufacturer will still say no and they wont fix it. Most car warranty's are a joke.

Have you been checking your oil? Notice any of it burning?

Could be a lifter tick.

That is what I was thinking too, But unsure. I was checking the oil, but I am in the military and was deployed, when my wife said the oil light came on. There was on about 1 1/2 quarts in it. There is no oil leak, so it is going pass the rings I guess and being burned. I only had the 5 year/50,000 warranty on it, which expired 1 week before the problem showed up:banghead:. I can do the work myself, but not sure exactly what the problem is. Could be just a lifter tapping, valve tapping, all the way to a rod knocking. I much rather it be the lifter than the rod! It sounds like the #4 cyclinder, I pulled the spark plug and saw sludge built up on the top of the piston, which isn't a good sign:nonono:

Just go to Jeep dealership and tell him to inspect amount of oil and sparkplugs if one of them is dirty then your engine is burning oil that mean you have same problem like me one cylinder is not working at all :(

Make sure you are aggressive insisting that they inspect engine properly !!!

I had that ticking noise then they replaced Catalytic converter with new one and that wasn’t the problem then I started having misfire then they noticed that there is a missing oil  after that tried to fix that engine 2 times 

Have you tried to get them to take a look at it and see if they will cover it? Its a long shot but might be worth it to try and contact someone high up and see if there is anything they can do. Sounds like a pretty bad problem to me though. Doubt its a lifter if you are burning that much oil. Sorry for the bad luck.

Yeah they won't cover it, but they will sell my a extended warranty after they inspect the vehicle. Of course they inspect it they will find the same noise that I did and won't cover it cause it is an existing problem, lol:banghead:
