Anyone ever think of doing this?? What all would be needed, I know diesel would be great for jeeps I just need to know how and what engine I should use.

heard a lot of good things about the 4bt, id loveeee to have one lol dont know much about whats required for it, id be interested in info on it as well

Cummins 4bt works well, new transmission, motor mounts, new wiring harness, new transfer case, axles, drive shafts, etc etc. Basically if it connects to the engine it needs a new one.

This has been widely discussed on this forum and I even believe mopar was working on a swap package. There was an online Q&A with the jeep engineering team a while ago and they basically said the only thing that was stopping them from releasing a diesel option was the emission regulation they had to work around.

So how much money are we talking here

There is a 4bt swap forum actually. Lots and lots of info. I am in the middle of a 4bta swap into an 85 ramcharger. MUCH better fuel efficiency (in theory.. should be at least 20mpg and likely near 25). Super simple engine setup, just a bit of fundamental fabricating.

Costs? My 4bta was $2100, tranny (47rh) $1000, NP 205 $400, miscellaneous bits so far, about $500.

But, the swap into a full size dodge is a bit easier, which is why I switched from dropping it in a wagoneer. You also need significant lift to clear the oilpan (so the axle doesn't strike it).

HPA motorsports does VW tdi swaps in wranglers. Their yj seems to have some decent power since its sitting on 35s and has a lot of extra accessory weight bolted to it. I wouldn't mind having a tdi in my 06 sport but I just don't feel the 1.9 liter they use is strong enough for the work I do. But really the tdi wouldn't be a bad swap and its not an 800 lbs monster like the 4bt. iirc the tdi weighs like 60 lbs less then the 4 cylinder jeep uses.
