Spring Over Question

I'm currently pricing out a new build up, and I'm trying to put a YJ on 38s, for $5,000. I've found numerous Jeeps for around 3,000 to buy, and I'm confident I can lift it to that height while staying under 2,000. I live in Florida, and I'll only be using this thing on the weekends, and only in the mud. To get 38s, I was thinking something like this. I figure I'm going to need around 12 inches of lift:

3 inch body lift,
SOA (6 inches)
4 inch springs

and now, the question. If i were to get 4 inch springs, they will run me about 400 bucks. My question is, do you think it would be alright, to lift my perches off of the axle by about 2 to 3 inches to make up for some more height so I wouldn't have to buy the springs? Or do you think thats just a bad idea all together. I would of course weld them into place, and also make some sort of brackets to help brace them. Has anyone done this? I'm not worried about flex, or ride quality, just trying to get height for as cheap as possible. Its pretty much the same thing as blocks from what I can see, and I know you rock crawlers are against that stuff, but down in South Florida, I dont have to worry about rocks, or even a hill. Thanks for any help or ideas.
