Water INSIDE my passenger compartment???

Hi Everyone. Seems like only sometimes, whenever it rains, I find a small amount of water on my passenger-side floormat. Good thing it's a rubber one. Any idea where it's coming from? I am figuring it is coming in where the hood meets the windshield.

Hi mate,

There are several threads on this same topic that will likely help with your diagnosis and correction. I suspect the cowl drain pipe is clogged as rain water isn't draining away faster enough the result being water is finding it's way into the air vent. Gravity is doing the rest. I had the same problem with my 1999 TJ.

Cheers

My 97 leaks in that same place when it rains. Not sure my cowl drain is clogged since I can spray the water hose in that area and it runs out under the jeep. I do think it comes from this area though. Since I don't have carpet, I ignore it since it's not much water.

Thanks Guys! How the heck do I locate the cowl drain? From inside the engine compartment or from under the dash?

Neither, remover the wiper blades, unscrew the five screws of the cowl, open the bonnet and remove the last couple of screws.

Cowl drain is under the windshield cowl outside your Jeep. You'll have to pull the wipers off and a few screws and the cowl cover will lift off. You'll be able to see the drains. I did the same thing and my drains were clean and clear. I believe my tiny leak was coming from further up the windshield around the window seal or where the top seals on top of the windshield. Never did figure it out but it only does it if I park the Jeep with the nose slightly down hill.

"Bonnet". Usually only hear the hood called that when dealing with my MG. Reminds me that I'll never have enough money, it's been on hold since I got my Jeep!
