Bumper swap
I am new to the Wranglers, will bumpers for a TJ bolt on a YJ? If not what modification would be needed to make it fit?

If I'm not mistaken it mounts the same with no modification. Most aftermarket bumpers are good from 87-06 unless they utilize a multi mount.

Thanks cpisani89, what is a multi mount? Like I said I am new to Wranglers. I have an 81 CJ-5 stored away in the barn that I drove for a lot of years, but am just now coming back to reality.

What I meant by that is I'm not sure if they just drill a bunch of holes in them and say it's for all years or if the bolt pattern is in fact the same

I just installed my TJ bumper with stock fogs onto my 91 and i did have to do a good amount of filing to get it to fit and also took an angle grinder to the bottom section to fit it against the shackles. Overall looks much better than before but did not realize it was going to be so much work.

As far as bolting it up everything matched right?

Do you have any before and afters and maybe some in betweens?

Some bumpers will be interchangeable as long as they have the bigger (L-shaped) mounting holes.
I took a Smittybilt XRC front bumper off a TJ and put it on my YJ. I had to cut/shave/drill out the bumper mounting holes for it to fit on my YJ. If you measure a YJ and TJ from hole to hole on the bumper mount, you will notice about 1/4 inch difference, give or take.
Like I said, some bumpers are made to fit both the YJ and the TJ. Those bumpers will have the bigger mounting holes that resemble a sideways "L". I don't have any mounting pics and I would have to remove my bumper to show you.

the stock holes on the Tj stock bumper are out of place and there are two holes on each side whereas the stock yj only has one hole. i would say you have to move the holes about 1/2 of an inch. which doesnt sound like too much work but a drill bit isnt really sharp enough to do the job as the metal is pretty thick. but dont let this pursuade you not to do it! i can take pics tomoro. my profile pic is with the yj stock. i have not hooked up my fogs yet but they are on there. there are a lot of aftermarket that will fit yj, tj , n ljs but it is definitly a cheap way to make it look better
