Sliding window locks
Before I take them off and apart to replace what I assume is springs? Is it easier to just buy new ones and if so where? Mine won't stay closed and the windows slide open when driving.

Ive got the same issue with a 1997 if anyone can clue me into where you can get the 4 locks. It would be greatly apprecited!

X3 I need the latch locks for my sliders also

Same issue the front part will be fine but the back slider always opens and can easily slide it open to get into my jeep. A cheap way to fix it would be to duct tape it, but if there's a more permanent to open it that'd be better.

On my latches on the slider window they say STEEL HORSE so I looked online and can't find any parts just the doors that sell for about $450 a set.

just take them apart . They have a small piece of flat spring steel that if you just flip it over will work like new again.

If they are like mine and i am sure they are.

On mine the clip portion is broken off. Has been since I got the jeep last march...

Steel horse is brand that either went out of business or was bought out years ago. I have a set and would love to buy another. Did you find some for sale or were they just bestop or rampage sliders?

They were Best Top sliders the whole set upper doors. No parts for them I could find.

Hey guys I have experience with this as I fixed my sliders right after I bought my jeep last month. First off, bestop upper door sliders, clips were essentially useless and would pop out over bumps.

To remove them you need a torx bit with a hole in the center (tamper proof torx). You can get around this by getting a set of clamping pliers on there and turning the two bolts off. Be careful not to break or scratch the window, but it should be alright. Once you got the clip off you need to separate the two pieces. Push in on both ends of the "pins" and pull the clip from the base. Once apart yu will see there is NO spring!? Mine had a simple piece of plastic that was broken to the point where it did nothing. My fix was to buy 4 springs (1 per clip), and install them into the base. Put the clip back onto the base and reinstall.

Hope this helps, I can try to go into more detail if needed, but really it's self explanatory once you get them off and open them up.

Good luck!

But what if there is no clip to take off?

Sorry didn't see your post on that, I was merely responding to the 'fix' for broken but complete clips. You could fab something up to act as a clip (like the stock one). The design is really simple, yu need a thin arm with a edge to catch the notch on the window. You also need a flat base for the spring to sit on the apply pressure, and two pins to fit into the base of the latch.

What part are you missing, the clip (arm), the base, or the whole damn thing?

Rrampley 02-07-2013 09:26 AM

Just the clip part is broken off both side the base is there as well as the little pins that hold the clip on to the base.

Torx inbetween size
I am looking forward to fixing my latches on the sliding doors.
The mentioned screws are security torx and come in various sizes, I grabbed a kit today and it has T15 then skips to T20.
Well the 15 is too small and the 20 is too large. Any chance you know what size I need or where to find one.

I know that this is an old thread, but I figured someone else may stumble across this thread like I did when looking for the replacements. There is a local store that reached out to Bestop for me and was able to acquire the replacement latches. They come 2 per pack with the security torx bit necessary to swap the old with the new ones. I paid 16.99 per pack (I needed all 4 replaced). The Bestop part number is 337.00P. Here is a link to a picture of them in case you want more info or proof that they exist.
