Junk Yards

How many of you have actually had luck in finding Jeeps at scrap yards that actually had useful parts. I would like to go grab some half doors but I think that this would be one of the first parts to go. I was just wondering if it is a naive idea?

It's hit or miss. We had a 97 rolled Wrangler in our junkyard for about a month. Half doors were there, in great condition minus the plastic inside cover. Guy wanted 100 apiece the two times we went up there. The third time, we did shopping for about 6 vehicles at once, bought almost 1K worth of parts for 100 bucks and walked out to the truck. Decided to ask about the doors again, went back in and asked, he let us have both for $50. Bought them on the spot. Really, it's hit or miss as to the parts and the deal you can get.

around here jeeps don't make it to the scrap yard with anything worth while on them. doors, engine, trans all gone before the tow truck gets called. the parts that do hit the yard are gone within a week or so.

We have a good sized one here by me in Huntsville. LOTS of jeep parts, including doors, hoods, axles, interior parts, seats... gotten quite a few parts from them.

There is a junk yard not far from here that had about 20 or so jeeps. Even the old chiefs etc. Most of the parts were gone but we found what we were looking for and then some! I enjoy looking around anyway, even if there isn't anything I need there.

There's a place in Statesboro, GA called Salvage Jeep Parts.
It's just a "father/son" operation, but they have something from pretty much every Jeep model made. Their stuff ranges from nuts and bolts up to full, running vehicles. And as the name suggests, they only deal with Jeeps.

They aren't what you might call technologically advanced, so no website. They do have a phone though...and their number is 912-587-5918.
I haven't talked to them in a few months, so I don't know what they have sitting in the yard right now.
They usually have several sets of doors and tons of interior, drivetrain and suspension parts.

Standard disclaimer... I'm not in any way affiliated with this company...blah, blah, etc, etc.
