Order period closed for the month...

Hi all,
I am planning on buying my first Jeep in the next two months. I have been in contact with several dealers both through personal visits and internet. Yesterday I get a call from one of the online contacts and we talk about what I am looking for. The customer service rep says she will pass my info on to the salesman. About 20 minutes later I get an email from the salesman who says the ordering period is closed for the month and to try again next month.

My questions is such a thing as ordering window even true? I get limited run colors might not be available and that's cool, but it sounds as if they are trying to create greater urgency on my behalf by saying ordering is closed for the month. Those sales tactics are cheesy and don't sit well with me. Has anyone experienced this?

That's dumb. When I ordered there were a bunch of restrictions on production, but they still took the order and put it into the system. It did take another month though for it to actually get in line to be built.

As Zmob said could have restrictions and the dealer just not know they can place the order. But better to safe than sorry and place the order early in the month.

Have been told that each dealer has a particular cut off date for orders each month.

Not sure but it appears to be true. Would make some business sense but they could still take your order.

Sounds like they were trying to get rid of you.

Dealers have a set "allotment" every month.....but this only counts towards vehicles ordered by the dealer for the dealer. Yours would be a "sold" order, which gets a higher build priority and has nothing to do with allotment.....at least in my experience. My best friend works as a salesman where I bought my Jeep, and they had met their allotment prior to me ordering mine, but it didn't matter, mine was still built and delivered in under (1-day) a month.

Now, there are issues with equipment being on hold. Your dealer should be able to tell you as you add options or spec out your Jeep if something is on hold. I.e. The 430 NAV was not available when I ordered mine, if I would have ordered it, my Jeep would not have been built until they received their new shipment of 430's from Garmin or whoever. Same for paint etc....a lot of guys on here have had extended waits for special colors.

My order was on restriction and still went D1 a few days later. The dealer kept acting like they couldnt even put the order in but I knew better. Took me 4 visits to finally get them to understand that you could still put the order in and the system would give me a VON...
You may not get D1 right away but you can still get your VON and order confirmation sheet to make sure it was correct and has the right "sold order" designation.

I agree with Jared1956. I ordered my 12JKR 9/12 in Cosmos Blue because the dealer said that color was being built at that time. Two days later I already had the VIN. My dealer told me it could arrive today.

Final orders for November production had to be in by 10/13. You can still order and your order will go into the system. You will get a VON right away but probably won't get a VIN until next month.

Sold orders due count into the allocation. I.E., if my allocation for this month is 30 Wranglers, your sold order counts as one of the 30. If I have already met my allocation your Wrangler goes toward next months allocation, because yours is a sold order it does get moved up faster than a Wrangler for dealer stock.

I ordered on the 3rd, should I have a VIN? I don't yet.
And....if I tried to order and my dealer had already hit their allocation, am I correct in assuming their ordering system would show as restricted? I am buying from a small dealer and for I can guess they might have hit allocation with just a few units.........

Depends on what you ordered. The only way it would be on restriction is if the model itself or one of the options is on restriction.

Is the cut off alway around the same day? Cause I ordered on sep 20 and it was still built on Oct 5th.

Try and find a dealer willing to alter one of his ordered units to yours. Talked to my buddy again and that is what he did for me. They had met their allotment but were able to change one of their stock orders to mine by calling their rep.???
