Any regrets ?

I am getting closer to pulling the trigger on a Wrangler, and I was wondering, for those of you that recently bought a JK, do you have any regrets ? Are there any options you did not get that you now wish you did ? Is there anything you miss about your old car ( if you did not come from another Jeep ) ? The one thing I struggle with is whether I want to get the 130, 430, or 730. Also, trying to decide between the Sport and the Sahara ( $ ) and the regular or unlimited ( space ). So, if you could do it all over again, what would you change ( if anything ) ?

Thanks,

Nick

I got the Sport and with the upgraded interior that appeared in 2011, I don't regret not getting the Sahara. The Sport is plenty nice for me. It comes standard with cruise control and steering wheel mounted radio controls. I bought the 2 door to keep the cost down and I'm fine with it as about 95% of the time I'm the only one in the Jeep. However, now my wife thinks we should have gotten the JKU instead.
The only option I regret not getting is the U-Connect.

oilwell1415 10-19-2011 09:29 AM

Happy wife=worthwhile purchase. No regrets here. The only things I would have done different are available on the Jeep order form, so that doesn't really count.

TroutSafari 10-19-2011 09:38 AM

No Regrets. The nice thing about my Jeep is anything I wanted to change or ad, there are many options.

rics1997 10-19-2011 09:40 AM

I got the 2dr sport. Absolutely no regrets. (Went with aftermarket stereo, don't like any factory systems). One option that I didn't even think about but mine had it was the Anti-Spin option (LSD). Get it if you can. If you get the sport, I liked the S package. And do not get 3.21 gears, make sure to get 3.73 gears.

A 4dr would be nice but I just couldn't do it. I think a 2 dr is more of the Jeep spirit. Sort of like buying a 4 dr Porsche. Not saying that a 4dr isn't a great Jeep because it is, but I like the pureness of a 2dr. That is also why I don't like the Sahara with it's painted fenders and top. Not to mention how easy it is to scratch the top when removing it and trail rash that will happen on the fenders if you offroad at all. Just think the Sahara is just too pretty to be a Jeep even though it is just as capable.

Saying that, it is what you need and what you like that matters. If you want one thing and buy another, then that is were regret comes in. Go test drive several models and find the one you like. If you don't fall in love with your Jeep the minute you drive it then it probably isn't the one you want.

Not to admit my wife was right, but if I could I would have tried to get non chrome mirrors, and see if the dealer would trade me some m/t tires. I'm still torn on the upgraded nav, because while I would never use the nav, a touchscreen radio in 2011 would be nice.

But honestly, I pulled the trigger as soon as I found the jeep I wanted, and I don't regret it at all. Jeep is badass

harley JKU 10-19-2011 09:56 AM

Purchased a 2012 JKU sport with a auto. Has the 17 inch wheels, power wind. etc.. One item I really love is the Uconnect phone option. The difference in ride, and performance is huge from my old 06 Rubi. Pull the trigger, you wont regret it !!

2012Cosmos 10-19-2011 09:59 AM

Sport Unlimited. Hands down, no regrets, best decision/purchase I have ever made.

xcantuaj 10-19-2011 10:05 AM

If you don't want any trunk space then save money and get a 2dr. I needed the bigger trunk and the 4drs....my kids like the jeep a lot. Ill say this....when you see the 4dr unlimited with no doors, no top and big wheels.....:thumb:. What are you driving now?

panthermark 10-19-2011 10:07 AM

How about specific features?
No nav vs 430 vs 730?
Climate control or not?
Remote start or not?
Certain gearing?
Certain colors?

The above should say: "....are NOT available on the Jeep order form...." Otherwise we would have gotten them.

Im in the same boat...getting ready to order a Unlimited Sport and the only thing I'm not too sure of is the connectivity group and the 130,430 or 730??? I'm not into real technical stuff would any of these systems benefit me??

The options I feel are a must have for my Sport thus far is the Max tow package, auto trans.,dual tops, limited slip,I'm thinking the infinity 7spkr sound system but I'm not sure I need this or not.

sneck 10-19-2011 10:25 AM

I like my limited slip diff, the 3.73 gearing, the upgraded speakers, the power options. i didnt get climate control, wouldnt want it (top is never up unless its raining. I have the base stereo, the upgraded screen seems like it would be nicer, but i dont know if i could justify the cost. I added my own trailer hitch for 100 bucks instead of the tow package, and I like it. I got the factory side steps, and wish I handnt as I just replaced them with rock bars. I got the soft top, and love it. I got the stick, and I spend all my time in the city and so I'm almost wishing I got an auto.

but again, its really hard to not wear a big grin no matter what when youre driving with the top down.

If you are getting a Sport, I don't think you can get the 430 or 730.

I looked at a sport and priced similar options. But I want factory heated leather in saddle, 7 speakers Infinity system (no nav) and tube steps and remote start, so it is a Sahara on my radar.

Even if it is medicore, I think the factory LSD is a "must get" unless you plan on swapping axles or something. The tow package is a touch overpriced..but that is another "must have" IMO.

Skip the tow package unless you like throwing money away. Just order it with 3.73 gears. The hitch and harness can be had for under $100.

One thing I regret a little bit is not getting half doors. The full doors don't fit inside the 2 door, so if you go somewhere and decide to go doorless you're SOL. Half doors could be stashed in the back when removed.

panthermark 10-19-2011 10:42 AM

^The "only" issue I have with getting an aftermarket tow kit is that there "might" be an impact on spring rate. But if you are changing all of that stuff with a lift later...it won't matter.

Since I plan on staying stock (if I can find a color I like), I plan on doing everything I can to get the higher rated springs out the door. I'm assuming that means getting a 4 door with a hard-top and a tow package....but you never know with Jeep.

Ape 10-19-2011 10:46 AM

I regretting buying a 2009 2-door back in 2009... I should have gone Unlimited due to a growing family. We never drove it because we couldn't haul all the kids & gear (soccer, football, chairs etc.). Sold it back in August with 4,xxx miles for a 2012 Unlimited. It addressed everything I did not like about my 2009. And the refinement and extra power of the new engine was the icing on the cake.
Also love the leather over the easily stained fabric seats.

NickCats 10-19-2011 10:48 AM

Thanks for the input, everyone ! What a great forum, hope to be a contributing member soon...

I have a 2008 Mercedes Benz c350 ( wife has a 2011 Jeep GC ). We are planning on having a second child next year and I just don't need an expensive luxury car anymore.

Regarding the 130 / 430 / 730, I hope when I visit the dealer they can show me each to compare.

Keep the input coming, and thanks again !

Nick

My fiancÚ and I picked our 2012 JKU Sahara up yesterday. We looked at not getting the Sahara and getting the Sport with less options. We new that a 2 dr wasn't a option because of our 2 sons and sports and what not. Our Sahara came with the black hard top and we wanted it that way because our the paint getting scratched when we take it to the trails in November and from then on. The Saharas do come with more option but it's about how your gonna use it. The 730 is good for us because we take frequent road trips. Also the upgraded stereo is quite nice to. What it boils down to is what YOU want.

Tell me more...

How do you like the leather? How much is vinyl? Can you easily tell the difference? Is is rugged? Sticky?

I wonder if the Wrangler cloth seats are like the Liberty cloth seats...which are EASILY stained by water...yes water. (I have a tan interior).

SullyRock71 10-19-2011 10:56 AM

I bought the most base 2012 Sport S with AC being my only option. I figured I'd add everything else after the fact and even the dealer said "Are you going to have the doors off? (Of course!) Then don't bother with the power package...". The car I had before was a 2006 Range Rover Sport, fully loaded with every conceivable upgrade you could have from navi to tv's in the headrests. You know what? I wouldn't trade my Jeep now for that if you were giving me $20,000 with it! I LOVE my Jeep and have no regrets! I'm jonesing to lift it and add some other parts, but in due time. Like everyone says here, do what makes YOU happy, but figured I'd let you know no regrets at all!!!

ShoreWrangler 10-19-2011 11:06 AM

I regret that they don't offer navigation on the Sport models. Now I have to go the after-market route. I don't regret not-getting the Sahara because I never wanted a Sahara for various reasons, but still bummed I can't get the Nav on my Sport.

It was also confirmed to me by the Jeep dealer as well as Jeep Customer Service that you cannot add the 730 or 430 after-the-fact due to the wiring being different somehow :(

bonzo27 10-19-2011 11:08 AM

I am going to look at a Sahara this afternoon hopefully get it today.

Is the Unlimited that much of an improvement vs the 2 Door? If you have the 2 Door how is the trunk space? If you have the Unlimited does it feel too big?

I believe I read on this forum that you can buy the stiffest springs available from the dealer for $150/set. That puts optioning the 3.73s, doing an aftermarket hitch and pigtail, and buying the stiffest springs at $300. Still cheaper than the tow package and 3.73s and you will know for a fact you've got the stiffest springs. If your only reason for getting the 4 door and hardtop is for the stiffer springs you are really on the backside of the value curve.

That's really not a big deal since the aftermarket offers twice the capability for half the cost. And you can have speed sensitive volume which is desparately needed with the top down.

Could not figure out while people go nuts over the factory nav 430, 730, whatever.
Of coarse that option was not available when I bought my Tj new. I always thought
aftermarket was the way to go especially considering the cost ??

The 4 door and hard top has been my plan all along. And having a tow hitch on my vehicle is also a "must".

The invoice price on the Trailer Tow package is $240...so while overpriced...it isn't "too" bad. But it would be nice knowing what spring rate I was getting up front. Too bad Jeep does not make things that simple.

But I may keep that in mind if I come across a Sahara Tan Sahara Unlimited that has everything I want except a tow package. (I saw one similar to that about a month ago...but it was a LONG ways away).

panthermark 10-19-2011 11:24 AM

I'm passing on the nav....
Seems like aftermarket....or using a smart phone....would be more cost worthy....and easier to update. Plus I would worry about too much sun light and moisture on a touch screen over time.
