Whats the neg of lifting a TJ 4" or bigger
 
I was wonder what all problem you run into when you lift a TJ over 4" or bigger? My cousin had a 03 TJ with a 4" lift after drive it. I didnít want to lift my 02 TJ because I love how it handles stock. Is there a right way to lift a TJ 4" or bigger and still have a smooth riding TJ that handle well

It's not so much the height, but the quality of the shocks, that determine the quality of your ride.

Nothing if you know what you're doing and have even an elementary education on link suspension and steering.

If not, you're opening up a can of worms and you'll hate the outcome.

well, lifting over 4" with short arms and your control arm links will be very steep angles like this... \ and that will make the ride not so comfortable

and because they are so steep there is not much more droop that your can get out of them.

My jeep is 4.5" including tires and surprisingly it runs very smoothly on highways and city roads. I'm waiting for my next tax return to put on an SYE. But for now, I've had no problems, except in windy conditions on the highway lol. I would also add in that it depends on the suspension system, tires, and shocks, as some will ride rougher than others. And some may feel too loose in steering and what not.

Tip over!! You raise the center of gravity and are unable to do very steep ascents compared, say to a stock wrangler. On descents, you can tip over going downhill. On off-camber trails, you increase your tip-over angle and are more prone to roll it. The ideal lift is 3 inches with a 1 inch body lift and 33's for tires fitted on a 8 inch rim.
Now, I raised mine with a 4.5 lift and a 1 inch body lift. Added 35 x 12.50 on 8 inch rims to gain more sidewall which gave me more height also. I just am real careful climbing the hills!

I installed a 3" Zone lift, 1.25" body lift, motor mount lift plus tcase drop (need to do an SYE so i can rid myself of that)...33x12.50 tires on 15" Cragar Soft 8's with 4" BS.

IMO, my Jeep handles MUCH better than stock on road...especially on the highway at 75mph. It doesn't dart around as much, probably due to the wider tires and wider stance with the new wheels. It does feel a little rougher as far as bumps go...but that's all in the shocks and I'm used to driving trucks so I really wasn't aiming for a car-like ride.

if you want it to ride well you need to run a long arm 3 link up front and a true triangulated 4 link out back then have a good shock and spring combo to go with it
