factory TJ Carpet?

Is it possible to get true factory style replacement carpet for a TJ?

(yes I've searched, spent an hour and a half reading 58 threads... and clicked every link and looked at every replacement carpet set)

YES, I want carpet. I have (old stained wore out) Tan factory carpet, and would like black or very dark gray factory carpet.

For those who haven't seen it... Factory carpet fits and stays in place with no glue. It has no jute padding, some sort of thick plastic like stuff underneath. Left and Right front pieces that can be removed without removing the seats and just loosening the console. rear footwell piece that attaches to the front pieces with snaps. Rocker panel pieces that wedge under the door openings and kinda hold everything together. (NONE of the aftermarket kits, including mopar's, have these) Rear floor that fits, fenderwell pieces that fit. And it all just kinda sticks in there and stays put, and yet I can pull it all out in 5 minutes should I want to. I can pressure wash it without hurting it, let it dry in the sun, and stuff it back in in 5 minutes.

NO, I am absolutely not interested in bedliner, and don't care who thinks it's better.

Is it possible to get real factory carpet?
where?

Put a thread out in the Wanted section. People are ripping it out all the time. I have seen some people giving it away for free.

Yeah, I threw away my carpet that was in good condition because nobody wanted it.

I have a grey carpet which I believe is factory. I took it out when I got my tub Line-X'ed and it has been sitting behind my couch since. Its in half decent shape for coming out of a 1999.... but the best part is that its free.

If your local to South Florida, come and get it.

jp2611 10-21-2011 02:37 PM

Quadratec has it also---not really cheap-but not to bad--if that is what you want.

I had considered it because I had black carpet and the salt from the roads/parking lots that got on my shoes/than on the carpet stained original carpet. But lined tub and got the big mats with a small "rug" under center console. No more carpet.

Thanks, but again i'm looking for factory carpeting.

Jute padding and carpet adhesive need not apply.

I have factory carpet, but there are a few rips (places you don't see though) it was a pain to remove actually. But it is dark tan, the original color you had. However you could paint it with fabric paint if you want. I actually currently still have my front carpet in to keep my bedliner from coming up due to my feet. haha. But I would be willing to part with it for the right price.

Thanks Ryan, I appreciate the offer. I have tan carpet, and it's in pretty decent shape considering it is 11 years and 235,000 miles old...lol.

For some goofy reason, I want black or dark gray carpet. Oddly, I'm thinking about changing the whole interior over to black or dark gray. Really, I should just sell this green / tan sahara, and get a dark gray or black 03-06 rubi, it would match the new motorhome better.

But I kinda like this green TJ.

GoldenSahara00 10-27-2011 09:27 PM

I would get some fabric paint and use that if you have carpet then! Its pretty cheap. I actually would do mine but idk how the plastic/rubber portion would turn out up front drivers side. my jeep is black on desert sand pearlcoat, so the black would match well.

I think the jeep and motor home go fine, it makes the jeep more noticable, and I love green jeeps.

When I bought my TJ earlier this Fall I went through a few weeks thinking I wanted new carpet in mine to accent the new seats I had purchased. Went as far as ordering thicker carpet from both Summit and 4 Wheel drive speciality store before returning both, removing the factory tan carpet and cleaning it with Tuff Stuff interioir cleaner and a brush. After it dried I vacumed it real well and reinstalled. It looks like new. Removed all the salt stains, spilled coffee, and etc. that the original owner had left for me.

Ya, I had mine out this spring, after I let her sit in the rain overmnight with the top down (oops) and the carpet cleaned up pretty well. The tan interior and tan and green seats just isn't doing a whole lot for me. Maybe I just have to fight it. It is overall a really good looking Jeep.

Chrysler was really thinking when they put tan interiors in Wranglers.... It's mud colored. As much as you might not like it, black is a zillion times worse in the sun, and when mud is involved.... :) Just another reason to learn to embrace the tan.

shipjim 10-29-2011 10:55 AM

I pulled mine out in pieces, bed lined the jeep but amhaving trouble with lots of heat off the bell housing and passenger floor. Not sure what to do to prevent, Idon't want to have more carpet, I have good rubber tubs for the mud etc but the bellhousing heat is miserable in the Texas summer.

Nice looking motor home, full timers or weekenders??

1jeeplvr 01-21-2012 09:11 AM

I was thinking of replacing mine, until I remembered how poorly any aftermarket carpet fits, even if it claims OEM.The way they ship it also sucks. It seems like they always have creases where its been folded, that dont come out.Im just removing mine then using a good carpet cleaning solution, scrub brush & good ole elbow grease.Maybe spray the prob areas with a stain removing solvent.

superdavis78 01-21-2012 04:11 PM

I just need the piece for the back seat....YES THE DREADED TAN!! I am going to Tuff Stuff the hell out of it, and use a Bissell carpet cleaner on it to pull the good stuff out of the carpet....

Jeepzjlover 01-22-2012 11:34 AM

I just pressure wash my carpet and suck it out with a steam cleaning carpet extractor if you cant get it out that way it ain't coming out.

My carpet was in good condition but stained pretty bad in come areas. I took it out and cleaned it really good, then dyed it. Just a thought, it came out pretty good.

What kind/brand of dye did you use? Does the color come off at all?

eScott 01-24-2012 10:02 PM

I used dupli-color from autozone, so far the color hasn't come off.
