Im new to Do-It-Yourself things, Help!
 
soooo how do i get this clip off the radiator hose? already bought the new clip which all you need to tighten it is a flathead, simple, but this thing looks weird i dont know how to get it off....should i cut it off with snips?https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&i...235865074-1&zw

took mine off a week or two ago to put a new thermostat in, you have to pinch the two ends together, hard as hell, i used a pair of pliers to pinch it together and slide it back, then pull an end of the hose off and pinch the clip again and slide it off..hose clamps like you got with the screw are much easier lol

thanks for answering, i knew it was leaking, and i thought to myself "oh no big deal a clips like 3 bucks ill do it tomorrow" and i just got under it to take the clip off and i was like this is tight! i guess ill have to wait to bring it in the garage tonight where all my tools are

With a set of pliers like these:

Put the pliers over the two tips and squize. Then you can remove it.

Channel locking pliers work the best for those hose clamps. I would recommend putting the stock clamps back on instead of the worm drive, screwdriver clamps. The constant tension clamps are preferred as they will never come loose.

I was pretty sure the leak was coming from the hose, because its dripping right where the clamp and hose meet the radiator, so just pull the hose closer and throw the stock clamp back on?

A lot of times there is build up between the hose and where it clamps. Pull it off and inspect the hose and the point it clamps to and clean them both up. Check the hose at the same time to make sure it is not swollen or deteriorating. I keep the worm type of clamps in my tool kit for emergency type situations.

Great idea, ill leave em in the trunk, and thanks for the help ! its appreciated! i think you are right and ill just have to clean up the hose and the clamp a bit, it only leaks when the cars running and it was overfilled with anti freeze at one point this week because i was trying to find the leak, which is why it could be so sloppy now

Like Wrangler06 said before, you need to squeeze the middle tab towards the two spread apart taps to open the clip and slide it off. I think they make a special type of tool to open and close those you can get at Sears (or the like) but I usually just use a pair of needle nose pliers that have a 45 degree bent tip.

The worm-gear type hose clamps are certainly much easier to use, and I had the same mentality about eventually replacing everything with them, but Blaine from Savvy offered up a good point that made me change my mind. The more difficult clamps are a constant tension type of clamp that expand and contract as needed. The worm gear clamps don't do this, and so if the hose expands as it gets very hot, the clamp will cut into the hose slowly, and overtime it will ruin your hoses. I went through two hoses over the course of 8 months because of this; after a few months the clamp would cut into the hose far enough that it would leak. I got new clamps that were the constant tension type and haven't had a problem since.
