LOL, doesn't work with the new axle so I have to look for an after-market solution.

Dana 44a from a ZJ

44a, I looked at building one up on a past ZJ years ago, but at the time not much aftermarket support, and no one seemed to know exactly how strong that center section was.

True but there are a lot of wheeling ZJ out there with this axle. Just meet a guy at the shop with a GC V8 and he's wheeling the heck out of this axle and still strong. Happens that I meet a mechanic that knew the how-to's and installed. Anyway I'm not "rock crawling" it, only mild trails and beach driving for now. :thumb:

Have you had any clearance issues with the tie rod or anything up front with that new Solid cover?

Thanks for the pic. I was thinking about getting a solid. That helps!

Scored a Ford 8.8 4.10 LSD for $200 today, I think was a good deal. Will be a nice mod for a transition to 35's with 4.56 or 4.88 gears and a locker. What you guys think?

Nice I got mine for $180 and a brand new LS carrier for $25. I wouldn't do a locker until the clutch packs went out on that carrier. Unless you got the money to do it. :)

Can you explain?.... I'm a little confused. LS = Limited Slip? Where did you get this carrier? Which clutch pads? Does the Ford 8.8 carrier has a clutch? I'm looking into Detroit lockers.

Lol my bad predictive text. It's clutch packs in the LS (limited slip). The clutch packs do wear out and the carrier I got is brand new. So once the ware out I will upgrade to a locker, but at the moment i find it a waste of money.

A LSD is kind of a simi-locker. When one side spins to a certain point it will lock in the opposite side. Not my favorite way to do that. I gutted mine and did ARB locker w/4.56s:thumb:

Decoding the tag can tell you alot.
The 4L10 tells you that it's a LSD w/4.10:1 gears
The 88 tells you it has a 8.8" ring gear
The 8D30 tells you that it was built/produced April 30th 1998

this was the tag on mine.

I'll keep that in mind. I didn't open the diff yet, soon will be inspecting it to see how are the components inside and getting new rotors and brakes, etc. I thought about beefing it up with Superior chrome moly axles. M.O.R.E. sell a lot of parts for this axle also. Thanks for your advice.

Great, thanks a lot. ARB is very pricey, @ 1K, I might look into Detroit locker.

I can appreciate that, I kind of got a deal on mine. Got the ARB for $730(from a friend)and the gears + master install kit from Randy's Ring & Pinion for $20 worth of raffle tickets. I didn't upgrade the axles to molys', they're pretty beefy on there own. I did weld the tubes to the differential housing.:thumb:

Found a front D30 4.10 that's going in about a week or so and will be complemented with and Aussie locker.... I just order it.

Where did you buy the Jeep From? I had one that looks exactly the same, that I sold to my niece and she sold it sometime in 2010. She was from Northern NJ, Denville to be exact. My top had a chip at the base of it just like yours, same side. By the way it looks great!
