Off Road Park
Hey guys, I'm from down south of Iowa City, Kalona/Wellman area. Same problem down here, no where to play. But I found a place at Kahoka, Mo. that is about 2 hr drive and has mud and trails and a creek on about 200 acres. My jeep is clutchless right now after a trip down there 3 weeks ago but I'm planning to go back again later this summer after fixing the jeep and getting knee surgery. Just google Goose Holler ATV Park and an ATV website will get you all their info. Or PM me and I'll give you a phone# you can call me and get more info.

I'm in the Quad Cities for now, but looking to move to CR within the next few months. (Gotta find a job, first) I'm up there a couple times a week usually, so let me know if you know of anything going on, Jeep wise, or Job wise...

Y'all get something figured out - let me know. I'd be willing to meet up. I have a 89 YJ and a 73 J-truck... Just got both of them all repaired and good to go. :D

Up north looks like there could be some AMAZING places for hill climbs and making trails just off 69 as you're approaching the Clear Lake area... Sadly, I'm sure it's all private property that people don't want us tearing up... I drive by them all the time and just gawk at the hills and wooded areas and all I can think is: "There's gotta' be SOMETHING, SOMEWHERE..."

So the search began...

A girl and I found some places up by Mason City... Though I'm not sure how "legal" it was to be riding on them... Both videos are pretty short, and boring. Haha! It's only 2 of the 5-7 we hit and not anywhere close to filming the whole trail...

A lot of Level B's around here (AMES) have been graveled... Don't know if they normally do this for the harvest or not - but I actually went out looking for stuff around Story County all this past weekend - drove probably about 50-75 miles of gravel and came up almost empty-handed. I've also heard that some counties (and maybe the entire state) have made it illegal to be driving on the Level B roads. Obviously you're allowed to drive on them - but I think if the cops think you're messing around on them, they'll write you a ticket. Happened to the girl's friends up outside of Mason City a few weeks ago - that's what SHE told me at least...

As for down in Central Iowa... Here's one of a few "spots" I found... Somewhere between Ames and Nevada - But I'm not sure if anyone owns the property or not. There weren't any signs or anything... It's nothing special and VERY short - but it was fun for what it was. After a day of searching I was just happy I found something PERIOD.

Supposedly there's someone with property (with trails and everything) outside of Nevada... But I haven't contacted anyone about getting a hold of him yet...

JOCCI is one of the main clubs in Iowa. is their site.
I guess there's a few places in Iowa that are actually pretty awesome - but you have to be a member of their club, pay fees and meet a certain criteria with your rig before they'll let you anywhere near "The Farm" - what they call it...

Hopefully that info maybe helps get some people together...

tigerblood 11-07-2012 03:13 PM

Good info, around waterloo everything is private (aside from a few not so legal spots I've hit in the past) and a couple level B's...the search continues

Dead thread? With winter coming those level B roads can get a little more entertaining. There are several up around Williamsburg near the lake. I've just purchased my first jeep (traded my challenger) and I'm wanting to get out and play!
