2011 Rubicon shakes and almost stalls when stopping

When I hit about 21,000 miles I was getting onto the highway and my Jeep got a burst of power and drove amazing at highway speeds until I got off the highway. When I slowed down at the first stop light, the rpm's went down to about 700 and my Jeep shook violently and almost stalled. Ever since then it has done the same every time. Worse in the afternoon for some reason. I got the oil changed (after 1 month from the previous time) and got the tires rotated shortly after. Now it's much louder (probably the rotation but still after 1500 miles). I was hoping it would go away, but it hasn't. I'm taking it to the dealer this week, but want to know if anyone has the same issue. The dealers around me usually try to say nothing is covered under warranty from my friend's experiences.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be? I'm really disappointed because I've always owned Wranglers and this was my first brand new one.

P.S. The shifter knob fell off as well, they installed it incorrectly and the pins all broke.

Nitrous?

Jk

Burst of acceleration you mean? Odd
Our throttle is computer controlled maybe ECU related. Unplug the battery overnight see if that works

Automatic trans? If so sounds like your torque converter might not be unlocking like it should.

"shifter nob"

Assuming he/she has a manual

It was actually like a kick on nitrous, it's not like that anymore. It is a manual. I'll try to unplug and see what happens. Oddly when I come to a complete stop it idles perfectly. Made me think it has something to do with the drivetrain. I have found that I also get about 2 mpg less than before.

I agree pins what pins? But someone suggested unhooking the battery so I'm assuming that's what he's "unplugging"

Pull your spark plugs, be prepared to replace.
And you have 21k on your '11? damn. Thought I was driving mine into the ground faster than anyone else on here. almost 21 on my '10. Course its only 7 months old...
My plugs were replaced before 1 month, they were all F'ed up. Every single one.

rics1997 11-14-2011 01:29 AM

I was thinking either spark plugs or a plug wire fouled out. Take it to the dealer.

kjeeper10 11-14-2011 02:32 AM

How would the plugs/wires give him a surge? There is a wire that is near the alternator bracket in the front. Ive seen mention of it rubbing on it and shorting out.

Sounds like a computer issue to me.

Coomes 11-14-2011 04:45 PM

Recapping a few:

- Pins are the pins that hold the silver part of the shifter on the stick. They were broke, so the silver ring on top fell off. Not a major issue, just complaining.

- Unplugging was for the battery, and this didn't fix the issue from last night.

- The surge (nitrous feel) only happened once, and I thought wow now the Jeep is finally worked in and feeling great. This hasn't happened since the one time. It now feels sluggish and feels like it is trying to stall when slowing down to a stop. When stopped it idles perfectly

- I'll check the plugs tonight when I get home. Taking it to a dealer sometime this week.

One additional point of issue is that since the "surge" I have felt my accelerator pedal vibrate a lot more. It would make my foot numb if I drove 50 miles on the highway barefoot, for example. This is another reason I was thinking it was the driveshaft harmonics, which might shake the car and make it feel like engine trouble. Could this be possible?

You have all been great at analyzing the issues. If there are any more suggestions I would appreciate it.

Thank you

Any lights or flash of a light you notice?

Coomes 11-14-2011 06:14 PM

No flash or light. No engine lights or warnings either.

GREEN-MACHINE 11-14-2011 07:14 PM

mmm, broken exhaust manifold, or broken motor mount,, broken flex plate ( pressure plate..... just a few things that come to mind

Supercop260 11-14-2011 11:29 PM

I had the shaking problem last week but it only happened once. Mine is a 2010 JKU manual. I pulled into a parking lot in 2nd, with the clutch engaged. When I tried to accelerate and let out the clutch it started shaking to the point of almost stalling. I was moving at about 5mph at the moment. I engaged the clutch to stop the shaking but it kept shaking for another 5-10 seconds. I stopped, took it out of gear and it was still shaking. I turned it off, restarted it and haven't had the problem again.

Coomes 11-15-2011 07:12 PM

You're describing what happens to me every time I slow down, and it happens with the clutch in or out. I'm trying to get an appointment with the dealership by the end of the week. I'll let you know what it is when I find out.

Everyone has been great on here. I'm going to bring up everything when I go in.

Supercop260 11-16-2011 02:34 AM

Good luck. I know with mine, they can never "duplicate" any problem and I'm sent on my way. Keep us updated.

Here is what I have found out on this. I"ve owned a JK now for about 4 month now and this has happen to me atless 5 times now, though not when I'm stopping but when I start off in 1st or 2nd. once or twice in reverse
The JK is drive by wire on the gas peddle. If you do not give it just the right amount of pressure on the gas peddle it will do this, shake & stall.Even if you push in the clutch and try to give it gas to bring it back it will not work. Once it reaches that point it will stall, but will start right back up as some of you have found out.
As far as doing this when stopping , ya it sounds like the computer
